6.5x47 w/ 130 hybrids

Just got my rifle home with a brand new 6.5x47 barrel. Ready to load up some 130 hybrids. Has anyone been running these? My starting point will be H4350 and CCI 450. I loaded up some from 36-40.7 in .5gr increments moving to .3 above 39.5. My OAL is 3.170 at .0022 off the lands.

Scott,
Here is the Berger Load data . All this data is based on a COAL of 2.800.
H4350
Start = 35.5gr
Max = 39.7gr
Approximate velocities are 2491 to 2790 FPS
Approximate fill ratio = 102% (slightly compressed)
Are these bullets Our 6.5 130 AR OTM bullets ?

I have the Berger manual. Yes the 130 ar otm. Not much info to be found for them yet.

I don't even see 130 Grain 6.5mm Hybrids anymore on the Berger Site. I can only find VLDs. Still seem to have 105 Grain Hybrids for the 6mm. I think that the section here on the home page covering 6.5x47L shows a load of 41 grains of H4350 as an accuracy load. I am new to all of this and only asking because I was told that the Berger Hybrids were easier to load develop for than the VLDs, but at the Williamsport 1,000 Yard Benchrest School a couple of weeks ago, I shot my Borden 6.5x47L for the first time. Shot a number of factory Lapua 120 grain ScenarL rounds and then my instructor reloaded my cases with 41 Grains of H4350 and CCI 450 Primers and I was able to shoot three shot ragged holes with it. By the above data, I would expect that would be a hot load, but my instructor showed me his data and he did not get any pressure signs (I know it is different for different guns, barrels etc.) until well above that load weight when he was working up loads for his rifle. Multi-Fired cases where then sent to Whidden for a set of custom dies.

Look under "Tactical". They were there on Berger Bullets website just a minute ago.

on my new 6.5x47 I have 28in barrel. I liked the 140 hybreds better so I load 40gr h-4350 10 off to get 2850fps and this load is good out to 1400yds.

I choose the try the 130s first only because they should shoot a little flatter. Which might help with multi range targets seen in the PRS style matches.

I've been looking for load data for the same set up as you - 6.5x47 with 130 Berger Hybrids ... although I have so much Varget that I'm going to start there instead of H4350. Hoping to get the 130's over 2900 out of a 26" barrel.

mine is a 28 inch 8 twist 5R Bartlien with 130 VLDs loaded .010 off at 2.800 OAL I am running 41.2 H4350 and Tula 5.56 Magnum primers and gettin 2980 fps,,
primer pockets have lasted 15+ cycles so I assume the load is fine,,

I tested up to 40.7 today. I didn't see any signs of pressure, but the case is getting pretty full. I've been hearing of food results in the 41 range. I guess I'll have to work up a little higher.

If you are certain about not seeing pressure signs but are running out of case space use a longer drop tube and a slow pour, you will be able to get more in the case.

The 40.4 load shot nicely at the match today. I didn't some additional testing after the match. The speed was slower than I expected 2745. It had an ES 10 and SD 5. I also ran some 40.7 loads they test at 2760. They seemed to have good vertical at 600, so I'm going to do more testing over the weekend. Brass shows no sign of pressure so I'm going to move toward 41.0.

The Berger 6.5mm 130 GR Hybrid OTM Tactical Bullet was designed by Berger to be specifically optimized for maximum performance in magazine length ammo and that is why it is listed as a Tactical Bullet.

That's what my rifle was built for. I just shoot fclass for practice and it's close to home.

Wow, that is some serious velocity for only 41.2gr. That must be a very fast barrel. Most guys I know running 130vld run 41.5-42 and are 2880-2920 or they are running 37-38gr Varget with velocities around 2900.

OP, the majority of guys running 140hyb in PRS run them anywhere from 2760 to 2820 (with a few guys below or above that but not many). To compare to the 140's in the wind you are going to have to get closer to 2950 or better which is why I think most guys have stuck with the 140hyb. Having a flatter shooting gun in PRS is really not all that advantageous as the overwhelming majority of targets are known distance.

All that being said, I would shoot whichever load you get shooting the best.

Best Regards
