6.5X47 Lapua with light bullets.

Is anyone using light flat base bullets in a 6.5X47 Lapua?

Some guys do this with the 6 BR at short range. I'm wondering if this works in the 6.5.

I don't but I also don't see why it wouldn't work - 6.5x47's no different than other cartridges in this respect. It may have been designed to shoot medium to heavy bullets out beyond 300 yards but with a proper twist barrel, lighter than typical bullets (FB or otherwise) and carefully worked up loads it should do just fine.

Berger makes an 85 g FB Target bullet, their 26407. Sierra makes two, 85 (#1700) & 100 g (#1710) but they're varmint bullets.

Bob Cauteruccio makes two, an 85 and a 94 grain FB. bcbullets(at)sbcglobal(dot)net

There may be other custom bullet smiths out there too but I'm not aware of them.

Yes, I have shot light bullets in the 6.5x47. I took some of the Cauteruccio 81 grain flat based and loaded them to see what they would do. I chrono'd them at 3792 fps with N530 in a 28 inch barrel with an ES of 10 and an SD of 3 on my Oehler 35pm.

Cauteruccio normally makes 85 and 94 grain flat based bullets in 6.5mm. Berger has 85 grain flat based bullets that are being discontinued so you might get a good deal on them.

Havent done much more with them for lack of time and using the barrel with 130 vld's.

85gr Sierra/40gr IMR8208XBR shoots very well in a 24" 9 twist magnum contour sporter I have. Powder burns extremely clean and no indication of pressure. No idea on velocity but would like to know. Just a little information.

I've been shooting Berger 85 FBHPs using N140 out of my 6.5x47 Eliseo RTS at 200yds in XC HP matches. It's an accurate, light bullet that has light recoil, making it just about ideal for sitting rapids. Too bad Berger wasn't selling enough of them to keep it on their list.

Any of you guys got a load for 108 Sierra HPBTs? I have about 150 laying about that might be good on varmints. Have only shot 123 out of mine so far.

I have Varget, BLC(2) and W748 at hand.

thanks
