6.5x47 Lapua Varget for 130 HVLD

I don’t much care for the Berger seating depth test. Rather, I shoot them 5 in and 10,20,30 off before I ever start powder work.

I think that’s the most efficient way to find a good load. After that, just do a little powder work and you’re good to go.

I start my load development tomorrow on the new Beanland.

Which Beanland did you have built?

My 6.5 barrel was shot out, so I had him build me an entire new one with a TL3 and a Proof barrel.

My old SR2 will become my wife’s 6 BRA.

Very cool. I am about to order a Hawk Hill 7mm "heavy sporter" for next year build. Probably a 280 AI again. Interested to hear how your Proof barrel performs. Have a buddy interested in rebarreling a Christiansen Arms 300 Ultra Mag with a Proof barrel. He will hope to use Jon.

In all honesty, this Proof Sendero build came out 9 ounces less than my old Brux 5 rig.... so give that some thought. I haven’t posted pics of the rifle anywhere, but when I do I’ll send you a link. This one is drop dead gorgeous. Many thanks to Jon.

Conclusion to my post. I went to 37.8gr Varget (over book max work up slowly) and the 130VLD in my 6.5x47. Shot during lunch in some wind. 37.7gr gave me same 2 in same hole and one out group that shot on last outing. 37.8g brought the group under .3". Was going to shoot 37.9gr and further test the node but decided to save that for another day. Zeroed the rifle for 200 and called it a day. Thanks to all for comments and suggestions.

Just found this post that I started 7 years ago. Dusted off my 6.5x47 this weekend and loaded some more Varget and 130 HVLD's. Replaced the old Calvin Elite trigger (had some concerns) with a Trigger Tech and took it to the range. 37.5gr Varget and 10 thou off the lands. Good surprise after it has laid around in a safe for at least 5 years! Was scared to mess up my pretty 3 shot group with 5 and stopped there. Put remaining 2 in exact same spot on target next door. Should have shot 5 shot group and not been scared. This is a hunting rifle with Bartlein 2B contour barrel. 36gr produced great results. 37gr was about .5".

I think H4350 will give you a little more velocity than Varget for same pressures. I did not see pressure at 37.7gr Varget and the 130 HVLD. This said, it is well above a book max load and the hybrid may have a little more bearing surface than the HVLD. I could not push the 135gr Berger Classic Hunter anywhere near as fast as the 130 HVLD.
YUP,.. H-4350 and StaBall 65, work Real WELL, in my 6.5 Creed. w/ 130's at, 2,850+ fps !
I skipped, the 130 gr. Berger, H-VLD's as they won't group, for Chit from,.. my Rifle ( About One MOA from, a SUB 1/2 MOA Rifle ! ) FOUR Tries, so far and still,.. NO Luck with, them !
130 gr. ELD-M's and StaBall 65 for,.. Me !!! ( 3 shot,... "Clover Leaf's" ! )
Hogdon has StaBall 65, Data for, the 6.5 x 47 ,. me thinks !
Varget is, too fudging, EXPENSIVE, anyway,..
Unless, you're a very Dedicated, BR shooter
