How does everyone neck down there brass i have a redding type s F/L die do you do it in one step or more

camac said:Hi Guys, When necking down with a bushing die try putting a taper in one end (leave the other end untouched so still works as normal and no damage done). A tapered entry makes for "much better" sizing especially when you are jumping down a bit. Stick the $12.00 bushing in a lathe (or drill) and use dremel to put a taper in one end. As a tip the taper length should be 1/2 the neck length and has to accept the unsized brass at the start of taper (so have a shell in hand as you slowly take it out. Stop when mouth of shell just fits).
Size with taper down, then finish by flipping and size normally with other end. Much easier to do than it sounds and will make a "big difference" and doesn't ruin your bushing.
A FL die with expander and Neck honed out to correct neck tension would be great though and a ones step process..
I like to use the expander button for necking down as you often see a slight "curl" in mouth if you don't. Less so with a taper.
