6.5x47 Lapua to 6x47 Lapua

Just run em through the 6x47L die and you'll be fine, be careful not to push the shoulder back at all....

You can do it with either, but a bushing die would allow you to take it down in two steps if desired. I do it in one step but you would be able to adjust neck tension with a bushing die. So while a standard die would work, a bushing die is better.

I have the RCBS Gold Medal 6.5x47 FL bushing die! I thought about just changing the bushing for the 6x47, but was advised by several NOT to do this! Some state they do it all the time!

Try it, it's only about $12.00 for a bushing, if it doesn't work sell the bushing and order a FL die.

Hi Guys, When necking down with a bushing die try putting a taper in one end (leave the other end untouched so still works as normal and no damage done). A tapered entry makes for "much better" sizing especially when you are jumping down a bit. Stick the $12.00 bushing in a lathe (or drill) and use dremel to put a taper in one end. As a tip the taper length should be 1/2 the neck length and has to accept the unsized brass at the start of taper (so have a shell in hand as you slowly take it out. Stop when mouth of shell just fits).
Size with taper down, then finish by flipping and size normally with other end. Much easier to do than it sounds and will make a "big difference" and doesn't ruin your bushing.

A FL die with expander and Neck honed out to correct neck tension would be great though and a ones step process..

I like to use the expander button for necking down as you often see a slight "curl" in mouth if you don't. Less so with a taper.

Hi hawghunter,

I brought a 3 set of Redding Type "S" MATCH bushing neck dies set.
Run the 6.5x47L brass though the body die and then though the
bushing die with the correct size bushing for your chamber.
Make sure you try the resized cases in in your gun!
You are after a slight amount of pressure when you shut the bolt.
Zero headspace so the cases fire form to your chamber correctly!

Load and shoot!

Make sure you get a Redding Titanium Nitride bushings!
Don't need lube!

If anyone needs a Stoney Point (Hornady) 6x47L measuring cartidge, let me know, I will be glad to make one for you. PM me and I will let you know how much!

I wanted to thank Camac for posting his suggestion of opening one end of the bushing. I first tried running my lubed 6.5L brass right up into 6mm bushing of my Forster neck sizer die - crushed two case necks down into the body and runout was extreme on the couple of others that didn't crush.
So I chucked the bushing into my drill press and belled out the end with a carbide cutter in a dremel, then polished with a cratex tip in the dremel.
Necking down is now effortlessly done in two steps, flipping the bushing to the unaltered side for the 2nd pass down to the base of the neck.
I'm only introducing 0 - .003" runout which means I can get varmint accuracy on the first firing.
