6.5x47 lapua question

just thought of something. I'm waiting on my barrel for my model 10 savage that was a 243. since the 6.5x47 lapua uses a small rifle primer is that going to be an issue? as far as firing pin goes? just curious.

i have built two 6brs using savage model 110 and model 12 actions that were 308s and have had zero problems with the 6br small primer case. I am also waiting on a 6.5x47 barrel from Northland as we speak. What load are you going to start out with? I am wanting to try the 130 berger but have not decided on which powder yet, seems everyone is using many different powders with this caliber.

really? pretty much everyone i know (in real life) that has a 6.5x47 uses vhitavouri n-550 and cci450 primers, my self included

and judging from what ive read on this forum, that combo seems to be really popular all over the world

i got some 205 fed match primers and a crap load of rl-15. I have some 140 a-maxes but I'm hoping to settle on something a little smaller. i am a big fan of a-maxes though. tried other bullets in my 7mm rem mag. 3.5 inch groups at 770 yards on a good day laying on ground with bi pod and 16 power scope. I think I might start out with 107 smk. got a pac nor with muzzle break on the way. guns going to weigh round 14 i think. I'm thinking bout no recoil. i can hack my 7mm mag recoil but it's just too much of an event for me. shot it 75 times one day and got better as the day went on.

I wouldn't think you would have a firing pin issue but if you do let us know. I would be interested to know what kind of problem it would cause. Thanks, Brian Brown.

they said it would be 15 weeks but i don't remember how many weeks it's been but I'll def. let you know. everyone must have crappy weather today like ours. everyone is really posting quick. that's a good thing.

Yes, N550 does the trick with CCI 450 primers.
If you like AMAX bullets they make a 123 gr. I use 41.5 gr. N550 in my hunting rifle. WORK UP TO IT.

yes i have read that combo of n550 but after reading 77 pages of big stuff i have also seen many other combos as well including rl 15 ,rl 17 , H4350 , varget , and couple more so was just curious.

what is the barre life on this cartridge 6.5X47l...... ?

i've been thinking about another build... an 6.5x47l wasn't one of them, but i ran into a possibility to pic-up a load of brass ...
i also have noticed a lot of talk on this cartridge.. my other choice were 22 br an the 6 dasher...

i'm wondering what the barrel life is on the 6.5x47l anyone thanks

sorry for the double post, but i can't figure why there is a line thru the words

what is the barre life on this cartridge 6.5X47l...... ?

Appears to be in the region of a good 2500, ie basically double a 6.5-284.
The old law of diminishing returns applies as usual.

If you haven't tried RL-15 with the 123's , give it a shot . I have used N-550 (excellent ) , but RL-15 performs on the same level or better , lower price and better availability . With the big firing pin assembly Federal primers may be a problem , CCI would be a better choice of primers . If blanking does occur , it may be necessay to have the firing pin hole drilled out and bushed to smaller size . Worked for me on the 6BR !

RL15 and Varget both seem to work very well with the 120/123 class bullets and are the go-to standard powders.
N550 would be harder on the barrel but if you must have a bit more velocity, ..

How is N550 harder on the barrel?

Obviously a "non-believer" about these hybrid powders being harder on barrels.
It's been a consistent observation of my gunsmith who does a lot of rebarreling for F-Class shooters.

Having said that, these guys sometimes chase max vels hoping for a micro advantage in the wind..
