6.5x47 Lapua primer pocket ???

I am sizing my first set of 100ct Lapua brass that has 11 firings, currently loading #12. When the Forster sizing die retracts, the decapping pin stays in the brass??? almost every time. Has anyone ever heard of this or had this happen? Pin is .062" Can brass be flowing hole closed?

i renmember people talking about drilling their pockets and have a few bits i never used .080 - .088 - .093 that i got for that purpose at some point. Yes i am fire forming 100 new brass now :)

they are scheculed to get annealed by my friend who just got a new high tech annealer that needs some practice with it.

should i get these drilled?

I think Lapua used the PPC style flash hole. You may want to use one of these to open the hole up, or see if you can get a replacement Decapping rod for the PPC.

thx, that seems to answer the question. I "thought" the flash hole was @ .080ish?

being .060 I can see why the pin may be sticking. Just never had that happen before?

i couldnt compare to new brass , as they are all loaded

less concerned now

added fyi,
decapping pin broke due to spent primer tube filling.(either shooting too much or not emptying enough) :o
I went through my decapping pins and may have picked a wrong replacement as i have other dies (incl forster .223-.243-.25-06-300 Norma etc...) I cane across a pin that was 1/2 roughtd up for die side grip and measured .061") worked fine for the rest.

The hole should meet industry standards if that requires drilling then it should be opened up

Uh there is nothing wrong, your using the wrong size decapping pin for Lapua 6.5x47L brass.... Lapua 6BR, PPC, X47L, 308Palma all use a 0.059-0.062 flash hole.

You need to be using the correct size 0.058 small flash hole decapping pin.. if your not using a 0.58 pin then your punching that hole bigger and messing up your brass. Lapua uses this smaller flash hole for it's higher pressure brass.

I know I am stating the obvious, but every case you decapped with the larger diameter pin is now not like your new brass. You won't need to drill them either as they are already opened up.

I won't lie and say I didn't do a similar thing years back with the same caliber case. I was just barely aware something wasn't right on the first case and stopped. I used that case as a spare Stoney Point (now Hornady) seating depth comparator. I hated having 99 cases in that mtm box....

I turned down the decapping pin on a Lee decapping die to fit the small flash hole brass and always decap separately because I don't trust myself to remember.

I think a lot of us have been there before. Its a crappy lesson to learn, but you will remember it
going down the road.. I only use the small de-caping pin with my Mighty Armory decap die and it
a separate process every time..no other de-cappers needed.
