6.5x47 Lapua Pet Loads

Please post your best 6.5x47 Lapua loads and information here.

There is limited info circulating on this cartridge so I thought this would be a great place to start a collection.

When posting your loads please be as detailed as possible and include barrel specs and velocity if you have tested it. COAL and distance to your lands is also very useful.

40 grains of H4350, 120 SMK, .010" off the lands, CCI 450 primers, Lapua brass. Krieger 26" oal, heavy varmint contour, .294" chamber neck, loaded round .290", .110" freebore, average velocity 2818 fps, with single digit SD & ES numbers.

Krieger 4 groove 8 twist 27"
PTG reamer : .2930" neck , .170" freebore

Lapua cases turned to .290" loaded round neck Dia.
CCI br primer
Lapua 139 grain OTM scenar 0.007" off rifling.
Between 40.0 - 40.8 of VV n-550 depending on conditions.
Velocities as tested at 75 degrees = 2840

Was able to go up to 41.5 but wasn't able to hit an accuracy node without the pockets suffering.

I have 3 rifles chambered 6.5x47 Lapua. Pretty much only use Berger 130gr VLD's but will be testing some locally custom made CopperHead 130gr VLD's when I pick them up. All my load development starts at 0.002" off the lands, about 0.0015" neck tension and loads start at 36.0gr AR2208 (Varget) then progress to find the first accuracy node up to 38gr. In all rifles it has been around the 37.5gr mark. All load development is done at 200 metres or yards depending on the range used and the best conditions available. CCI BR4 Primers. Wilson In-Line Dies. Concentricity is maintained at less than 0.001" more like 0.0005".

Stolle Grizzly II, 1:8" Twist 28.5" Pac-Nor NBRSA Profile Barrel, Kelbly M1 Stock and Jewell 1.5oz BR Trigger. PTG Reamer Print#18103, 0.250" Freebore, 0.286" neck. Lapua Cases turned to 0.010" neck thickness, loaded round 0.284", Wilson 0.281" bushing or 0.282" inverted.

The load settled on as the most accurate is 37.4gr and will shot sub 0.1MOA. Best is a 0.088" 4 shot group at 200 yards but on average it shoots 0.2" at 200 yards. I have tested loads as high as 38.6gr Varget but the groups are nowhere as tight consistantly. Velocity averages at 2,860fps, ES 8 and SD 2.46.

All cases are weight sorted as are bullets. Meplat trimmed and pointed using a Widden Pointing Die.

I shoot 500m (547 yards) competition benchrest, my wind and mirage reading skills are not the best and need a lot more improvement but my smallest record 5 shot group has been 1.182" @ 500m

Second rifle is built on a customised Remighton 700 SA Stainless, 26.5" Krieger #17 Profile HV 1:8" twist 0.292" neck PTG but I don't have the Reamer diagram but pretty much the same 0.250" freebore. Jewell 1.5oz BR Trigger. Accurate load is 37.6gr Varget, 0.002" off the lands, CCI BR4 Primers. Not as accurate as the Stolle but around 0.15MOA, velocities are a tad higher and nudge the 2,900fps mark. I feel that the Krieger Barrel is a little tighter bore. Requires a little more tweaking of the load as I feel it can be improved, perhaps neck tension &/or seating depth. This is my 300 metre outfit.

Third is built on a Tikka T3 trued action, lightened factory set trigger with set mode around 2.0ozs. 27.0" Pac-Nor 1:8" twist HV Profile. PTG #17736 Reamer, 0.294" Neck, 0.127" freebore set up for 123gr Lapua Scenar but used very few of these so the freebore is being lengthened. Same basic load setups and a work in progress as it is really a practise rifle for testing but with the above loads it performs much the same.

I have tried Reloader 15 powder but it just didn't perform for me, AR2209 (H4350) I consider too slow a powder for this case size and 140gr Bullets I consider too heavy and not consistant enough accuracy wise for the distances I shoot in benchrest. I do not believe in hot loads.

My mid range rifle is a 6.5x47 lapua.
1909 Argentine mauser modified action
I believe a Richards microfit stock
Obermeyer 8.75 twist 28" straight tube at 28" -5R rifling
123 amax with 38 grains of varget and cci 450 primers
I cant recall OAL but it is .010 off the lands. The base of the 123 is at the neck shoulder junction.
I use a .003 bushing and a forster bushing bump die.
Unknown velocity, I have shot 140's no problem with the twist on this rifle, but it does prefer the 123's.

I have shot around .60 at 300 yards.

26" Criterion, Savage action. Shooting primarily 120 Berger match & Lapua 123 Scenars. Struggled w/ accuracy until I started jamming .010" and switched from 205M's to BR-4's. 37.5 grs RL-15 gives me 1/4 MOA pretty consistently @ 100 yds. and 2900 + fps. I neck size w/ LCD until cases tighten up in chamber then F/L size with Forster die. .......... Thanks to tips found on this site my Savage went from a tomato stake to a pretty fair shooter :)

Rifle
Savage Action, Krieger 28.25" 6.5x47 Lapua Smithed By Hi-Pro Precision
Rifle Basix Trigger (Doesn't go low enough for my taste)
0.294 No turn neck, 0.125 Free Bore
McMillian Stock
Vortex Viper PST 6-24 FFP EBR-2C MOA (I love this reticle, the 0.25 MOA open center works very well for my purposes).

Load
130 Berger VLD Target 0.004" into lands
36.6 Varget
Lapua Brass 0.002" neck tension
BR-4
2852 fps ES 15 SD 6

This load was developed using the OCW system at 100 yards and then re-confirmed at 200 yards. Yesterday I shot a 0.358" 4 shot group at 200 yards. A dime covers it up completely. I saw pressure at 36.8 so I am very very close to max. I am going to try coming off the lands a bit to lower pressure and hopefully not lose my accuracy node. It was -15c during this test so the pressure is only going to go up as the weather warms up this spring.

;D 200 Yards 4 Shots ;D

I found another decent accuracy node at 34.4 but it was nowhere near as good as this one. 34.4 shot about 1.2" 5 shots at 300 yards.

Thank You Dan Newberry and Mega for coaching me along to these results.

custom savage action 28in kreiger bbl with harrells muzzlebreak 8oz trigger. sightron 10x50x60 scope. 40grs h-4350 2834fps. laupa brass run in forester bump die. 140 berger hybreds seated .005 off. .001 neck tension. have loaded brass 30 times have yet to trim. taken this load out to 1400 yds scope no more adjustment. does great if not to much wind. it is a killer at 1000 yds. love this caliber.

This is my favorite caliber yet.
40.5 gr H4350
140 HYBRIDS .010-.020 off, both shoot great
CCI 450 primers
24" barrel
Built by Jon Beanland. Here is a 5 shot group from yesterday.
37.5gr varget .020 off hammers just the same. Both these loads do great!
I'm using 2762 FPS in my ballistic program to match my 1000yrd dope.

Nice work.

It seems that H-4350 and Varget are both big time winners for this cartridge. That's great that yours shoots both so well because you never know what will be available these days.

This rapidly became my favorite caliber as well but it's not really a fair comparison because this is also my first high end barrel. I had one bad group today playing with different powder charges, it was 1.270" at 200 yards hehehe. All the rest were under 1/2 moa with some almost down to 1/4 moa. I wasn't shooting well today and ruined a group that may have been under 0.2 moa if I didn't spoil it by pulling a shot (A lighter trigger would be nice). This rifle really allows me to see the quality of my shooting ability and I really like that. With my other guns it can be extremely hard to tell if I spoiled the shot or if the rifle did.

Shooting 26" Bartlein, 8 twist. I found good results with Power Pro 2000MR; node at 41.5 gr, jumping 123 Senars 0.005". No pressure signs for me up to 43.0 gr. Getting 3050 fps for great results at 1000 yards.

41.5gr H4350, Berger 130gr VLD jammed 0.015", Wolf/Tula SRM. That load worked great on two different 6.5x47's with 22" (Rock Creek) and 30" (Brux) barrels. The 30" had a much longer freebore as it was throated for 140s, so COAL was different between the two but it didn't seem to make a difference.

Beanland sure knows how to chamber a barrel.

8.5 twist Benchmark on a 700
40.5 H4350 with 130 gr. SHPBT and 130 VLD are in one hole if operator does his part !
Very effective on Whitetail and Hogs.

Anyone tried the Sierra Varmint 85Grs in the 6.5x47 Lapua for coyotes/Varmints ?
If so,, I need some reload Data.
I have lots of Varget.
I have a 6.5x47L , 20", 8Tw, Bartlein Barrel , 700 Action, Threaded for my Suppressor.
It shoots the 130 Bergers, 37.5gr Varget, FGM primers, in very tight groups.
Will the 8-tw be too much spin for the 85 Grs ?
