6.5x47 Lapua feeding issues

I'd like to ask the members a specific question.

I recently obtained a new rifle using a specific short action similar to the Rem 700 short action. The caliber is 6.5x47 Lapua. It uses PTG BDL style bottom metal.

I'm not going to name either the gunsmith, who is nationally known, nor the action manufacture because I want to give both every opportunity to resolve my issue. They are both very well known and have provided excellent work and CS before this.

The 'smith, when function testing the rifle, as is his standard protocol, put three unfired rounds down the mag and it took some swapping of followers., springs and mag boxes until he found a mix that would work. When I received the rifle I put 5 dummy rounds down and the first three, fired brass, would work, with fired brass only the first two would feed reliably.

It seems the brass, when fired, expands about .008" at the shoulder. The extra diameter causes a larger pivot or fulcrum point and the cartridge can tilt up and down; enough that the bolt face runs over the top of the cartridge rim, not pushing the cartridge forward, out of the mag.

I contacted the manufacturer. They had me send them the rifle, at their cost, to rework the feed rails. Just received a call from them. Seems, they too, even after reworking the feed rails are only getting 3 of the fired dummy rounds I sent to work. I sent 5 each with 100 gr Partitions and 140 Berger VLDs. He says the 100's feed better.

Here is my question.

Those shooting the 6.5x47 in a BDL style bottom metal, any issues of feeding from an enclosed magazine?

I have a sniper grade 6.5x47 using the Surgeon action and AICS stock with AI mags = zero issues.

I have a Stiller Tac 30 with standard BDL bottom metal, mag box, and follower. Feeds perfectly. Does not help your situation though. For what it is worth, the 6.5-47 Lap should feed out of anything that a 308 will. Hope you get it resolved.

i have a stiller preadator that was a little gritty. i just used a small oil stone to lightly radious the feed rails and it feeds very well with 130 bergers.

I talked to my contact @ the manufacture today. All is well. They took a short mag box and tweaked it. Short mags have some taper toward the front of the mag. They straighten the sides out to give it a more squarish, rectangular finish. Their going to mount their proprietary ring/bases sets, put my NF 2.5-10x32 back in and send it off to me next week.

Whew!
