So, I need to re-barrel my 6.5x47 Lapua. Historically I have always used 1-8” twist barrels at 28” finish length and have had fantastic accuracy with 130 VLD’s, 130 Hybrid OTM, and 140 Hybrid. For this next barrel I have the following bullets I will tune loads for: 130 Hybrid OTM, Lapua Scenar L 136, Lapua Scenar 139, and
SMK 142.
I would go with another 1-8” twist but I can get a 1-8.5” twist right now rather than waiting up to a year on Krieger, Bartlein, etc. to build me a barrel. I know the 8.5” twist will be great for the 130 Bergers and most likely good stability for the Lapua 136 and 139. Do any of you shoot 140 class bullets in a 47 using a 1-8.5” twist?
I live in Mississippi so my environmentals suck as density altitude is terrible here. Not sure the 8.5” will stabilize 140 Hybrids and 142 SMK’s. I’m hoping you guys can tell me you’ve had great results in the 8.5” twist.
Thank you,
Josh
