6.5X47 L Improved

Not wanting to muddle up the thread about the 6mm version of this case, I will start one here.

Anyone with experience with a 40* shoulder version of this case? I would like to see what you have and what your Thoughts are about it.

I have a few take off barrels from some 30" Long Range Match rifles that could be wacked off and turned into hunting/tactical type rifles. Was really thinking about going this route. Would like to shoot 130's to 142's as that is what I have on hand for now. Would also like to fit the AI magazine. I am not worried about feeding a 40* shoulder case especially out of a center feed magazine as it seems to be a none issue with every thing seen and experienced so far.

Speeds of a 140gr class bullet with a 26 to 27" barrel ?
Water Capacity of case?
OAL length of loaded round with your Freebore?

I did a search and did not find what I was looking for. Lots of stuff on the 6mm version... very little about the 6.5mm

I plan on using my 6mm Vortex reamer to modify one of my existing 6.5x47 barrels. I just have to get an adaptor bushing to run the 6.5 pilot on my 6mm reamer. I have been meaning to do that for a while now ,but just havent got around to it.

With the Existing 30* shoulder it may not be worth the effort. But I thought I would ask anyway. There may be a reason there is not much info about an Improved version of it. Ha!

Thanks for looking.

Russel.

We posted on that topic over at the other thread... A few guys their have the 6.5 version.. Read through the thread and send them PM they will talk with you...

I Have.

I was hoping to get that info on this thread so when someone tries to do some research that it is not buried in a 6mm version of a thread and there for never found. I don't want to be THAT GUY who derails the post off on a completely difrent topic. This is not AR15 dot com.

An easy way to do it is to push the shoulder forward .100 and leave all your angles the same that way you can use standard 6.5x47L dies. I recommend .220 freebore for an improved case, gets the pressure ring above the neck shoulder junction and keeps the bullet away from the powder.

There is one way to improve it that most dont think about. Rechamber to 260AI and use necked down 308 palma cases. With the extra brass in the case head you will be able to drive as fast as a 6.5x284

Seriously your not going to gain much from improving the 6.5x47L case. Its accurate, easy to load for and no annoying fireforming.

That's what I keep preaching about is Palma cases with all these cartridges... Why would someone want to shoot a larger case just for 20-50fps more than a factory Lapua?? But, in the same cases used with Palma brass they could get 150fps plus! I'm holding a Dasherized 260 made from Palma brass and you wouldn't believe the pressures this guy ran in a 200 plus round match!! I'm going to Dasherize a 6mm and see what happens.. The measurments I took off this case would be perfect to set at OAL around 2.9 and the 1.2 length 105 berger hybrid be just at the body/shoulder (base of bullet..)
