Ok....I am not new to reloading. But I am new to using the Berger VLD's. I read often that they like to be "jammed" or "in the lands". Now there seems to be a lot of mixed interpretation of what jammed means.
My interpretation of jammed is you can feel the bullet engage the rifling and there is resistance when closing the bolt.
Now I have just finished my 6.5x47 build and am using Berger 130gr VLD's. I did some very basic load work and found two loads that look good at 100 yards. One is "jammed" and one is 20 thou off of being jammed.
Now in the past when I have tried to run jammed loads (not with VLD's) I would get good groups, but would often get random fliers. These fliers would go away as I started seating the bullets away from the lands. The bullets I used were 115 DTAC'S and SMK's in different calibers.
So.....? Any input would be great. I plan on doing some more load work this week but advice on what others are having good results with could maybe save me some time.
Thanks a bunch,Stan
