6.5x47 freebore for 140 Bergers

Chris Matthews, Longshotrifles http://www.longshotriflesllc.com/ used PTG reamer print # 11724. It has a .294 no-turn neck and .104 throat. My dead-on OAL for 140 Berger VLD hunting bullets is 2.738". As this is a hunting rifle, I set the bullet 10 thou off the lands.

what powder are you using?

Whitley says 0.160" is ideal. After a BUNCH of measurring, thinking, and calculating, I had my 6.5x47 throat deepened out to the equivalent of a 0.177" FB. I wanted to be able to shoot the big Berger 140 VLD as well as the Berger 130 VLD and the Scenar 123/139 bullets. This freebore will do it.

I'm measuring a COAL of 2.822" and a base-to-ogive of 2.158" for the dummy round used to set the throat. HTH.

shooter65,

My initial results with Rel 17 has been very pleasing. Only showed a bit of difficult bolt lift at, well, take a look at some of my results so I don't have to re-type it all.
