6.5x47 brass question

Regarding 6.5x47 Lapua brass.

Is the current production brass any different than the older brass in the gold/black cardboard box?

thanks
lutheran

I've only used current production, but after 6-8 loadings it's still going strong.
I started annealing after the 4th firing. Now anneal every cycle through.

Might help.

I know the 6br's are different.

I have a 6.5x47 and a 6.0x47 and stocked up on brass while it was available in the cardboard boxes. I haven't bought any in the blue box, so I can't tell you if there is a difference.

Can't tell you the difference between the two. If any. However I have about 1000 pieces out of the blue boxes that have performed great.

I measured only 3 cases from an unopened box of the new stuff and 3 cases of the old stuff...so this is not a wide sample.

The 6.5 brass is NOT different, unlike the neck thickness differences you will find with the "new" 6br brass.

Both the new box and the old box showed the same variances: overall L of 1.841-1.842; neck OD of .286-.287; shoulder OD of .450-.451; web OD of .469; ball mic neck thickness of .01250-.01350.

I did not check case capacity.

I have turned both the new and old boxes for a .290 neck chamber, and was easily able to completely clean up the necks with one pass. I have not noticed any difference in brass life with either the old or new.
