6.5x47 Berger load data

Can someone give me the listed start and max loads from the Berger load manual for the 6.5x47 lapua using 140 hybrids with both varget and h4350.

Varget Start 31.5gr - max 35gr
H4350 start 35.0 - max 38.9

More than likely the numbers out of the Berger manual are very conservative. I have had a number 6.5x47 barrels and have developed very good loads using 142 smk's,140 berg lrbt, and 140 hyb. Every barrel/chamber combo has shot very well with H-4350/cci 450's and has been between 40.0 and 41gr. As long as your barrel is 27-30" there is a good chance that you will find a node between 2800 and 2830. What was the freebore length of the reamer that your barrel was chambered with?

My NIRVANA load is 40.8 gr H4350, CCI 450's and the 140 Hybrid for 2776 in a 26", 1:8.5 Krieger. I get consistent 14ES and .26 to .3 MOA, 5-shot groups when touching to .01 off the lands.

Well you should not go for such big bullets with 8.5 twist. 130+grain berger bullets are not made for this twist.
stick to 100-123grainers.
When I first got my 6,5x47 i was thrilled to have it shoot .2 groups right at first loadtests with multible loads.
Now I cant do tests on 100y because they are just single holes.
Move your testing to 2-300y and try 123 Nosler CC's, round 35.8g of VV N140 and CCI BR4 (thats what I use currently), consistently under 2" @ 500y

Don't waste time on trying to find a good load for bullets that are not made for this twist, you will never see more than around 50% of what this caliber is capable of.

If you want to shoot the heavyer bullets then you have to get a 8 twist barrel.

EDIT: if you try the Noslers make sure to go .1-3 OFF the lands, you have to jump those bullets unlike most for this cal

That he did!

For the record, when I found this load I shot a 607 yd ladder and immediately shot follow groups with 40.4, 40.6 and 40.8 gr at the same distance. 40.8 gave me a .269 MOA group. I then played with seating depth testing 10 in and 10 off the lands. The Hybrids didn't care if it was on or off 10. A few days later I set up the Oehler 35P and got a solid 15 shot zero getting an ES of 14 and SD of 4. In the past few months I've been shooting this load at 1089, 1341, 1482 and 1784 yds. Now, with that said, I shoot at just over 5000' elev so my air is a bit thinner can get away with a few things many lowlanders can't. Except the 1784 yds all were first round hits using my Gunwerks G7 rangefinder.

And don't get me wrong, not trying to be arrogant here but when I first started shooting this cal I was thrilled with .3 groups @ 100y and thought that was "great accuracy" aswell.
But the fact is that this caliber is just capable of so much much better accuracy.
I am well aware of that that I could probably go and buy a pack of 140grainers and get .3MoA @100 but why shoot bullets that are made for 1:8 twist from a 1:8.5 barrel ?
The potential in that is simply less than shooting bullets made for that twist, and thats not my opinion, thats just a simple fact.

But thats just me tho, I know I'm an addict and could never settle for less when I know I could do way more, If .3 is what you are looking for then you found what you want.

That makes two of us that are getting great results with 140s in a 1:8.5" barrel. When I was deciding on the rifle build I ask both Krieger and Bartlien what twist they recommended for 140-142gr bullets and both said the 8.5" would be just fine. So far can say that they know their business.

I don't shoot for group, only for score. Have shot the 140gr Hybrd, the 130 VLD and the 136gr Scenar-L (only a few) in my limited experience with the 6.5x47L (239 bullets down the barrel since built). The 140gr Hybrid holds the X-ring at 600yd and the other two hold the 10-ring, as far as grouping from my rifle. Being new at this game, I've got plenty left to learn and that includes working up better loads for everything, though getting something better out of the 140 Hybrid would surprise me.

Im using 37.1 of Varget with 140 Hybrids. It is crazy accurate at 100 to 1000. Im running 2792 with this load in a 26.5 barrel.

I tried H4350 and it just didi not shoot as well as the Varget.

I have had a number of 100yd groups in the 0's with 8.5 twist and 140's. They definitely will stabilize. I do think 8.5 is probably very close to being right on the edge though, but I have no proof to back that up. Its just a guess.

I am currently using up the last of my 140 grain 6.5 cal Berger BT Target bullets. They are not offering them anymore, and I will have to switch to the 140 LRBT's (better BC for the LRBT's...G7 .303 versus .286). I'm ok with that.

Anyways, I used the twist rate stability calculator offered on Berger's site, and also the formula for confirmation. My barrel twist rate is 1:8.5". The stability factor for my 140 BT's is 1.55. This is more than suitable when using 140 grain bullets. The stability factor will decrease to 1.43 with the LRBT's because they are longer. This stability factor is also fine. I used 600 feet ASL and a temperature of 59F in my calculations.

I am getting similar results. I had mediocre results with H4350. Switched to Varget 37.4 , 142 SMK, 205M. 26 in.Brux 2790 ES 2. Great results shooting matches from 100 thru 1000.
