6.5x47 BBL length

ALL of my custom BBLs finished at 30 inches or longer. Dasher, 6-47L, 7mm Rem Mag, 300 wsm, 300 wby 338 Edge, 6.5 wssm. All of these calibers could be considered some sort of overbore and adding BBL length added FPS.

I am contemplating a 6.5 x 47 or maybe an improved version of it. Is there any reason to go 30+ inches on this caliber?

All the advice I've been given is that 30" is a good length for a 6.5x47 target gun.

I run a 30" on my HG and it shoots awesome. Depending on what you want, I think you would want to be in the 28-30 inch depending on your application. 8)

This is by no means scientific, but I have done barrels from 26.5-30" with the same lot barrels and same reamer. All of them used the same load and produced basically the same velocities.

I run a 27.5" heavy Krieger barrel with a JGS reamer with .292 neck. .003 clearance. 130 Bergers pushed with RL-15 / 37.2g. (2915 f/s) An honest .5 moa off of bipod, some times better if I have my act together. Like Scott said, not a lot of difference in different lengths. For me it was a custom reamer that really made my system work. Shoot steel varmint game, 330 to 850 yds. Every thing came together on this build, sometimes it just works out.

From what I've seen you need a 27in-30in barrel to get into the 2,800-2,830fps accuracy node this cartridge loves with everyone using around 40gr H4350...

My last one was finished at 26" .
.170 freebore
.2930" neck
Lapua brass , necks skimmed to .013"

With that combo in an 8t i was achieving 2850fps with 139 scenars.
Using VV N-550 and cci br's.

I think if you plan on using RL15 or VV 550 you will be able to efficiently burn all the powder within that magical 26" mark.
