6.5x47 130 Berger load

Hey guys

After some extensive testing with 140Amax and RL17 I'm finically coming to the conclusion that they just aren't going to work. I've had some good groups but cannot get them to group the same consistently.

I've got a box of 130 Berger vld hunting heads. I have both RL17 and RL15, anybody got start and finishing figures for this combo's.

Rifle is a 8 twist Krieger finished at 24". My coal with 140's touchin the lands is 2.820"

Thanks

Craig

I don't know about your seating depth... I have shot 130 VLD's in my 6.5 x 47's for awhile. They LOVE being in the lands about 12K... BUT as far as RL-15 is concerned I use 37.7grs of it with a CCI 450 primer. Start out at 36.0 and work towards 38.0grs.

Just the info I was looking for bud thanks very much. What do you think about a starting seating depth to the lands? Start with a .010" jump ?

If it is a hunting rig and you use a magazine, you need to start about 10K off. BUT if it's a single shot, hunting rig or not, start 12K INTO the lands>>>>you will like it there MUCH BETTER!!

It is a hunting rig and is magazine fed, I'll start at 10k and work my way in. Hopefully will have better and more consistent results with them compared to the 140's

I can tell you that generally speaking VLD's, especially the 130 Berger's, LOVE to be set into the lands.. You may have some difficulty getting the accuracy you are wanting.. On the other hand, there is some formula Berger uses for their hunting VLD's.. It is something on the order of 25K off, 50K off, 75K off, 100K off and 125K off.. Then look for some promising group and work the bullets in and out in small increments wherever it looks promising. They have it on their web-site I believe..

Good luck!

H4350. You'll find something between 39.0 & 41.5gr, I suspect. I, too set them into the lands about .01" to .013".

I'm afraid H4350 and varget are impossible to get here in the uk just now, completely dry and suppliers do not know when we will get back for sure. I heard dates of 2015 til we started getting back in.

There is a powder available here called Lovex powder, and specifically S065 I think it is and it is supposed to be as good as varget. Ivd read a lot about 130 bergers being good with 37.5 gn varget so I may give this a try also.

130 vld's with 37.5 varget (RL15 would be similar in charge weight) and try a 35-40 thou jump. I won a Western Australian Queens Prize (State Championships) in FO with a hart barreled 6.5x47L and the combo above. CCI450 primers. This is how it shot at 800yds- note the vertical spread of maybe 4-5 bullet holes.

I would follow the advice above and start around 36gr and work towards 38gr looking for pressure signs.

If you can get some IMR4350....

I found promise approaching 39gr with the VLD 130s, CCI BR4 primers. 22 inch 8 twist.
