6.5x284

Hey guys I have a couple of quick questions regarding the 6.5x284. A friend of mine wants me to work up a load for him for his new cooper model 22. He has an ample supply of h4350 and h4831sc. All he has for primers is the cci 200. Im not seeing a lot of loads listed for this primer and that's all he can get his hands on. Will these work decent enough to bother with? And how hard is this caliber on brass? He bought the standard redding full length die instead of the bushing die so that will probably add to shorter brass life from over working the case.

What projectile is he planning on using and for what purpose?

sorry, 140 berger hunting vld. Mainly for elk,deer,wolves and coyotes.

BOTH powders will work. However, BOTH are hard on primer pockets if you try and run towards a max load. The primers arer just fine>>no worries there.

H4350: I would not run OVER 49.0grs with it or your primer pockets will suffer.

H4831SC: I would not go over 51.5grs or you will have short brass life..

Full length sizing will not hurt brass life whatsoever, bushing die or not. Just turn your necks down so that you get 1-1.5K neck tension.

Hey thanks again ShootDots. This neck turning thing is something I have yet to learn. Probably better to learn on my own brass first!! Ya hes not fussy about accuracy and all he cares about is if it will drop an elk or deer so ill keep the loads on the low side.

With a GOOD neck turning tool, it is easy as pie! It is actually one aspect of reloading I can easily tolerate.. AND it works!

That becomes a "personal preference" deal. I can tell you what I use. I use the Sinclair premium neck turning tool with "kit". NOTES: when you get the "Expander Dies" get a CARBIDE expander mandrel with it. The same for the turning mandrel>>>CARBIDE ONLY! It is WELL WORTH the extra $$$... Also get the Sinclair DRIVER and CASEHOLDER(s).. You will want to use a drill and this tool WILL LOCK the case in place under the stress of removing brass.. You also will need a GOOD case neck wall thickness measuring tool. I use the "Sinclair Case Neck Micrometer". If you do choose to do this "in my opinion" necessary work and IF you choose to go the Sinclair route, speak DIRECTLY to Phil. He is their "tech guy" and he will walk you thru all the tools you will need, WHY you need them and how to operate them>>>and he can sell them to you!
