6.5x284 dimensions

It seems like everyone has a different reamer for this caliber and there is a huge difference between what is spec'd and what new un-fired brass measures. What does a standard reloading die resize the base diameter to? Anyone have and resized, unfired brass that they can measure? All mine is new brass and I want to make sure the reamer is not too small at the base to render my dies useless!

I have plenty of new brass and it measures from .494,Winchester) to .497,Norma) Chambers are typically .5025-.504. I am wondering what a standard full-length reloading die sizes these cases down to after firing them in a .504 chamber? I want to make sure my reamer is not too tight and I can't resize the brass without a custom die.

dennis new unfired lapua brass measures .499 at the base and the same .499 after i full length resize in redding type s die set. a fired case out of my shilen 6.5x284 measures .499 to .500.my barrel was chambered at shilen. hope this helps, cliffe

WOW- The Lapua brass is the biggest of all of them then. The W-W stuff is only .494ish. I did finally get a hold of Dave Kiff and he told me that as long as I keep the reamer at .500 I am fine. I am going to err on the side of function and order it .501 which is about .0015 smaller than a regular match reamer.

Thanks Cliffe,

Dennis
