6.5x.284 and RE=26

RL26 is not a good powder for a 65-284, nether is h4350.H4831SC is the way to go!!4350 it way to finicky and dosen't give enough speed.RL26 will eat a barrel in 400 rounds.RL26 burns hotter than 4350.H4831SC gave great acuracy and good speed.

My experience argues otherwise. I have been running RL-26 in two 6.5-284s (140s and 142s) and a .243 AI (105s and 115s)for some time and throat wear has not been any more rapid than with H4831SC. One of the 6.5-284 barrels has 840 rounds through it and has seen no appreciable decline in accuracy.

I'm pleased with the results I've obtained with RL-26. I can get velocities unobtainable with other powders and with very good accuracy. Further, I don't have to run loads at brass-trashing pressures to get these results. I think this powder is almost ideal for the 6.5-284 and I'm sticking with it until something else comes along that outperforms it.

I'm, running 54.0 grs. of RL-26 with the Sierra 142s and 53.0 grains with either the 140 gr. Nosler Custom Comp. or the Berger 140 gr. Hybrid. All are in Lapua brass and use a Fed 215M primer. I could push the Hybrid harder, but it shoots very well at 53.0 grs.

56-57gr of Retumbo has always shot well for me in the 6.5-284. Velocities are 2950-3000fps depending on barrel and length with 140 class bullets.

re23 is a really good powder in my 6.5x284.. 147 eldm's pushing 3000 fps and 153 a tips at 2930.. both shooting under 1/4 minute groups out to 430 yards... with a 26 inch pipe

JLT. I agree with you. Not sure where 65 Fan got his information. The Closed bomb testing of the manufacture's show H4350 at 3760 KJ/KG Heat of Explosion/potential. While H4831SC and R26 are very very close to each other in Specific heat, R26 - 3905 Kj/Kg, H4831SC - 3870 KJ/Kg.
I had a barrel go over 1200 rounds in 6.5-284 with 140 class bullets in String fire match rifle shooting which is very hard on throats. Same as my normal H4831 SC load I had shot since 1999.

Proper information can be worthwhile in powder selection.
