6.5wssm

With my 6.5x25 WSSM I decided to spec the reamer so that a standard non bushing FLS die would size the neck turned case correctly. This gave a good, regular thickness neck thickness and meant I could use a dirt cheap standard 25 WSSM FLS die. For seating die I bought a 6.5mm blank Wilson die and had it reamed with the barrel reamer to fit.
As I also had a hard time finding 25WSSM brass here in Australia, my last batch of ammo was with 243 WSSM brass which I fireformed with a light load during a club day.
I do recommend you anneal cases after necking them up as the WSSM brass if prone to cracking if you don't anneal after necking up

Yea I'm not after the 40° shoulder version. Just as much of a straight swap to 6.5 as is possible.

Could I ask you about your reloading dies? Which ones did you end up using and in what configuration.
Unfortunately it looks like I would be seriously lucky to get my hands on reddings 65 wssm dies so I will kinda have to work with a mix Mach of the standard dies and expanders.

John.

I have a Redding F/L bushing die in 6.5/243 WSSM. It seems to me I special ordered it from Redding. For the seating die, I did the same as RDavies, I bought a Wilson blank and used the reamer. I'd check into using his idea for your F/L die. Much more practical than a special order die.

Thanks. I'm going to see the Smith on Friday and we will talk specs. He might be able to make my dies for me. Depends how much I pay him I'm quite keen on using an Arbor style if possible for loading on the range

pictures of rifle or loaded round or targets? details on what powders it liked? Can't tease us like this! :p
Haha. It eats 44.5gr ramshot hunter and it was not at all fussy.
Just loaded to pressure and kinda just stuck with it.

Velocities are slow. About 2500 according to my 700m test. No chrono.

Not sure if ypu can read the writi g on the targets.

That's a lovely spot and some great results. I have no trouble reading your writing. Thanks for posting!

I spent a couple days in Edinburgh and had some of the best fish and chips in Leith, but I regret that I didn't get to drive around the north at all. My wife and I plan to return and spend some more time driving around Scotland.

I really enjoy my 6.5 WSSM. 48 Gr H4831(sc) under a 140 VLD and 210 M primer gets me to 3000 FPS. Necks are VERY THICK. My chamber is a .301 and my loaded rounds are at .298 (ish). I have 12 -13 firings on my brass and it is holding up great. I love shooting steel with this.

The only drawback I see, and I may have talked to some on here at one time or another about it (although I didn't do anything about it) is how hard it is to open the bolt after firing. Doesn't matter if i load 43 or 48 Gr of powder.....bolt lift is harder than anything else I shoot. BAT "M" action.

Don't know if i will do it again.

Interesting... Mine is exactly the same.

I exspect if i was to go with a longer barrel it would be much faster. Mine is 17" long. Realy handy rifle for the hill

One oc the best chippies is ever had was in Edinburgh, canna mind the name like.. And could never find it again. The owner was called Perinio the shop might even had the same name. His daughter was my age and wow. Like i know were supposed to say our wifes are the prettiest women weve ever seen but wow. Litrally breath taking. Long dark hair and an olive tan.

Anyway...

Yeah its a cracking rifle and its by far my favourite. I do t often take it to that property though because i am under contract to use lead free and it just isnt fas enough to drop em the way i need. (cant be waiting for 1 to fall before the next one is being aimed at?) 243 is my work horse on this property. 10 round mag 27" barrel and 101gr hammer bullets screaming allong at 3300fps or there abouts

I had the same problem when I did one it’s not the brass it’s the case it’s called bolt thrust i done a 6.5 wssm ackley improved that should take care of the hard bolt lift

i shot a 6.5/25wssm with very good results years ago.you have to use a tight match chamber to get easyer bolt lift and wined them up.mine shot good at 3020-3050fps.if you buy 500 peices of brass and prep it all then weight it you will have a bunch of lots of match brass.for about 4 or 5 years.it was a pain in the ass but thats what i did.i switch to a 6.5/284 for 2 seasons then a 6.5creedmoor and never looked back.i shoot 1k benchrest at williamsport my smallest groups were shot with a 6.5creedmoor. 4.6" for 10 shots at 1k.
