6.5mm SAUM & Reloder 19

Hi Guys,

Just wondering if anyone is using Reloder 19 in their 6.5mm SAUM with 130/140gr projectiles and what sort of accuracy / velocity you have been getting?

Thinking about running the 130gr Swift Scirrocco in my 6.5mm SAUM. Mine has a 24 inch 8 twist barrel. Have been using Retumbo and 140gr and getting around 3050fps.

Thankyou in advance,

Michael.

Michael,

I'm running the 6.5 GAP 4-S cartridge which is the GAP/Hornady version of the 6.5 SAUM in a 26" barrel using Berger 130 gr. VLD Hunters and the Norma VLDs for targets. I have switched to Re-23, finding that I get a cooler burning powder and about 3150 fps for both bullets @ 2.925" loaded from a DMB. You can use this powder for both the 130 gr. and the 140 gr. 'match'-type VLD bullets, whether hunting or target.

Regards.

Thanks Kurz,

Figuring 25fps rule of thumb per inch of barrel means around 3100 out of my 24 inch tube. What was your starting load for the Reloader 23?

What powder did you swithch from and how have you found the accuracy with Reloder 23?

Regards,

Michael.

Michael,

Business has been taking precedent over answering, unfortunately.

I have tinkered with the standards of H-1000 and VVN-165 for several years. But I have also included some testing with Ramshot Magnum and IMR-7828, then finally with Re-25. All loads have been at 100% of case capacity except for the H-1000 of course which is compressed. Needless to say and concurring historically, the H-1000 has been very accurate, although Ramshot Magnum performs nearly as well. I like the results from VVN-165 but the prices keep me from ordering it too often. IMR-7828 and Re-25 give the highest velocities but at the cost of higher operating temps. Re-23 is a nice compromise for velocity and temperature and yields excellent accuracy when the rifle and shooter are up to it... My notes state that I started at 56.0 grains of Re-23 and went up from there. Bartlein 5R barrels and Defiance actions, all magazine fed.

Regards.

These numbers were ran for me, by another member, on his Quick load program......

Quickload predicts...

57.5 gr of RL-19 is around MAX (62,000 - 63,500 psi) with 130 gr bullets.
2.825" coal
24" bbl - 3,110-3,140 fps

I've not updated by QL so I don't have RL-26 in the database, but from the sound of things, RL-26 would be my first choice. If I could get any.

Reloder 26. Look on the 6.5 SAUM Facebook that George or whoever has up. Really good info. 140s around 3200 with good barrel life because it is a single base powders I guess according to those guys fwiw
