6.5CM loading question

Here in Canada, there is a serious shortage of powder happening. H4350 or even IMR4350 is unobtanium up here. And that seems to be most people’s go to choice for the 6.5 Creedmoor round.

I have quite a bit of IMR4064 and I would like to see if anyone has a load for it with 140gr class bullets. The rifle has a 24” 1:8” Bartlien barrel. There doesn’t seem to be a lot of data with this combination.

I would guess that the velocities I am looking for would be around 2700fps to 2750fps. Although that might be a stretch for only a 24” barrel.

The brass is Lapua (LRP) and the primers are BR2’s. My bullet is the Berger 140gr Hybrid Target. Any help would be appreciated.

If it's all you have then use it but your velocities will be slower. Here is the Hodgdon page that has data.

Yeah, I already looked at that site. Thanks. Yes, the 4064 is what I have.
I am looking for someone to chime in with real world results with the above combination.

OK, let's say you have 140 grain Bergers and IMR4064 powder and that ALL you have. Take at look at the .260 reloading data, maybe Noslers, and decipher some. The cases are somewhat comparable and there is info for 4064 powder. As mentioned earlier, it might be tough getting the velocity you want but that is the
nature of the beast.

If I were to do this myself, I would drop two whole grains of powder (about the difference in capacity between 260 and 6.5cm) and start there, but this is not advice for novice reloaders. Find appropriate data and work up. YMMV, etc...

I shoot 260 Rem and my buddy shoots 6.5 CM. Both of us have liked midweight projectiles (120, 123) and have used IMR4064. We have done load development and found the powder requirements are very similar. IMR4064 has been around for a long time. Hodgdon is trying to replace it with IMR4166 which is supposed to be more temperature stable. There are plenty of recipes for IMR4064 in (the older) Sierra Manual V5 for 260 Remington.

IMR4064
140, 142 gr Sierra Matchking
24 inch barrel
32.0 gr yields 2300 fps
33.7 gr yields 2400 fps
35.4 gr yields 2500 fps
37.1 gr yields 2600 fps

Start on the low end and work your way up checking for pressure signs.

The newer V6 manual has fewer recipes for IMR4064.

Don't go chasing your tail with all the various thoughts.. Take the loads from a given manual, that has them, for the powder/bullet weight, etc that you have and work up a load or two that works best in Your Rifle.
The Hornady data reloading site shows some, so start there and enjoy your powder, that you have.
