6.5 x47 high pressure sign questions ?

SVGC6.5x47

I’m shooting a built 6.5 x47 in a trued Remington action and have noticed a few high pressure signs on some brass.

The primers are definitely cratered and I can see slight marks on the brass but the primer cups are not flatented.

This gun shoots lights out with 40.7 grains of h4350 pushing 130 vld’s around 2950fps

I’m looking for advice to see if I should work up another load or if I am being to cautious! Let me know what you think I will attach pictures of a 5 round group

That in itself isn't a high pressure sign, it's a typical Rem sloppy fit pin to hole. If it bothers you have it bushed. As long as it's not blanking primers I wouldn't touch it if it's shooting good.

I cant see ejector marks on the head, but the primers look fine.

What breed of Primer. ?? Has the bolt had the firing pin hole sleeved/bushed. ?? At what distance is that group. ??

That said, one of my 6.5x47L's is a trued Remington 700 Action using either BR4 or 450 CCI's I don't have the slightest sign of a crater around firing pin strike on a primer. I am using Berger 130gr VLD's but I use AR2208 (Hodgdon Varget in your terms) about 37.6grs for about 2900 fps. I don't know what the group size is as I don't know the coin pictured or it's size. That group is what I expect from a target out at 200 yards ie all 5 shots touching each other in a tight clover leaf.

I know that a lot of people over your way use AR2209 (Hodgdon H4350) that shoot 1,000 yards but I have never got the consistent accuracy I want with that powder for 500 Metre (550 yards) that I shoot at. I think a lot use heavier bullets like 140gr Berger VLD's but again I never achieved the same results as the lighter bullet I have been using.

That just looks like a sloppy firing pin to me as well. My loads are above yours a fair bit. All my firing pins are bushed and it’s tough to see pressure in any of my 6.5x47s. I can feel it in the bolt though. I’d recommend getting the fp bushed.

As said, bush the bolt. There are several gunsmiths who offer the service, I had mine done by Greg Tannel at Gre-Tan Rifles.

I was getting the same primers as you are showing in my 6br. I had Greg Tanner bush my bolt, 1 word - gone. Mine was a Remington 700 also.

That's good speed for the amount of powder. Takes 42.2 gr of H 4350 and a 130 Berger for me to get to 2950 fps. I agree on getting the FP BUSHED.

The 6.5x47 case can be tricky as to what pressure signs it coughs up. I had one barrel, Stiller predator action that was piercing primers, I put an over size firing pin in, and the problem disappeared. The load was not hot and I fired 3900 accurate rds from that barrel.
An ejector mark is a sign of pressure, I'm not enlarging your pic, but I do not see one. Sometimes you can get a rub in the form of a circle around the primer pocket, most of the time it is built up brass on your bolt face, but the brass is on your bolt face for a reason, could be pressure, or your the face is rough and is prone to buildup.
Flat primers on new brass can be as simple as headspace, brass is getting pounded into the bolt face because it is growing lengthways.
One thing with guns, all are different and it takes some experience to understand pressures, some slap you in the face quickly, others are so subtle.

I believe the 3900, but what make was the barrel? I’m at about 1600 and don’t think I’ve got much left.

Mullerworks 3 groove 8.5tw, never sped up, ran 2820fps with a 136gr scenar the whole way, was still shooting, was not buying more bullets. I've had others go 26-2800, and one at 900 it was done.
