6.5 x 55 Neck Dia w/ Lapua Brass

Anyone have any info on what the approximate loaded neck diameter would be of a 6.5 x 55 using out of the box Lapua brass? I have a reamer with a .296" neck and I don't know if that will work as a "no neck turn" set up with Lapua brass.

Robert, I don't think that will work. Out of the box 6.5 Lapua brass measures between .294 to .296. with a bullet seated. I know this to be true because I just received some and seated a bullet and measured it. Mine is .294. There is a post in the forums here that states another guys new brass with a bullet seated was measuring .296. I know that is not what you want to hear but better to be safe than sorry man. Hope this helps. Bill

Robert,
My Lapua brass loaded with 142SMK is 0.295 I shoot it in a Kiff 'no turn Lapua' chamber. H4350 shoots well and a lightly compressed load of H1000 has the same point of impact at 1K. Will work on this gun more after the SOA. Won a BR stock this Summer that I will put this bbl/action in which will let me do more accuracy testing. This Quadlock action currently resides in a Gemini stock that can't be fired very consistently from the bench. Let me know how your work goes and I will share some of my loads/clock data with you off list.
cheers,
-lige

Based on what I am reading, it seems Lapua brass is probably not a good fit for a .296" neck chamber without neck turning. Thanks for the input.

Robert

Robert, the thinnest brass that I have ever bought is Win. I don't know if you would be able to find a parent to work from in your caliber. Hope something works out for you. Bill

.292, but when you seat a bullet it goes to .294. Trust me I know, I loaded about 7 of them. I tried to put in my WTC rifle with .294 neck in 6.5x55. Wouldn't chamber. I was like the brass measured .292. I measured with a bullet and it was .294.

I have to turn brass...no biggie its just another step and it cleans up the necks.
