Id scrap the factory action and go with a Borden alpine or Stillr Predator. No point in doing any work to a factory action in my book, from a cost standpoint.

My Alpine with #3 barrel in 6.5x47L and 6X Leupold does everything I ask of it.

FWIW: I too sold my Sako- 75's after building this one. MY alpine with BDL floorplate is 8 oz lighter than the sako is. My next build is going to be another Alpine on a 20 caliber Wildcat with McMillan edge in ADL format.

SDH - Here in NZ imported custom actions are not cheap, and can be hard to come by. There is of course the locally made Barnard actions, but for me, an SM is NZ$1575 (inc tax)plus a trigger, bottom metal and mag! I could by a Kimber Montana, new for the same money. Compared to 700ADL (used) NZD$600, and complete truing NZD$500. The Barnards are also heavy for a rifle to carry in the mountains. I'm sure it will turn out great. 99% settled on smith, and down to 2 barrel makers. Hope to get things underway soon.
As to stocks, to get a McMillan shipped direct is US$80.00.
Anyone have a used fibreglass stock to suit rem 700 sa rh, #3 contour barrel, they would ship to NZ?

I have a mint factory synthetic SPS stock on TradeMe right now but they're a difficult item to shift. Wonder why?

Hi All,
ok, so have decided on the "metal work"for my project. Trued 700 action, including sleeving the bolt (staying with rem extractor), Trueflight #3 contour barrel finished @22", slightly larger recoil lug. 'Smith is ordering in barrel and lug for me. Now just have to wait for it to be done, probably late July, so have some time to organise dies and reloading components.
