6.5 x 47 or 6.5 x 47 Tight neck

I'm having a selection dilemma with these 2 options... some say tight neck is more accurate and some say you won't see any difference.

But if you guys where going for maximum accuracy which would you choose. Neck turning cases won't be a problem for me, and i already own Wilson dies with few sizes of bush-ings for neck sizing. But my question is all about this, will i see any difference in accuracy?

Thats a tuff question,it would depend on your shooting ability, loading and the acc. of the rifle. For uniform neck tension, neck turn. It's a lot of work to do it right and shoot small. Ask your self if you are up to the task.......jim

I have a no turn neck based upon my own reamer recommed by Dave Kiff, Chambered and bedded by Jon Beanland ,a Stiller Tac 30, McMillan A3 and a Bartlein M24 contour, if it shot any better I would have to get rid of it since I would not deserve it. Little holes at 100 yds, once the load and seating is right.

I'm up to the task of learning and putting all the necessary work in this rifle and the loading progress i need to make it shoot as good as .2 - .3 inches @ 100 meters on regular basis.

I'm no benchrest shooter, but i like the idea of super accurate rifle so that's where i'm heading. If tight neck is better accuracy wise, regardless of my shooting ability, then that is what i want. But if its not worth the extra work on the reloading progress, then maybe i'll skip tight neck and just neck turn all my cases to similar wall thickness.

I can let you know in awhile at the present I have one with a no turn neck .294 shilen and I am waiting for another with a .288 neck shilen

I have three 6.5 x47 all of them with the same reamer. .292 chamber.

I have shot the turned and non turned brass in them. It seems that the turned brass shoots alot better. I think because of being turned and also because of the bit of extra clearance. My smith and also Ray Bowman both recommended .002 per side clearance.

My turned brass measures .289 loaded.
MY unturned brass measures .2905 loaded.

Hope that helps.

If you only need .2-.3 Go with a no turn but make the neck on the min. side and just do a clean up with the neck turner. .....jim

KT, sounds about right the turned brass is concentric as oppossed to non turned

no23, I forgot about Ron, http://www.benchrest.com/hoehn/html/ammo___brass.html He turns brass on a lathe, can't do better then that.

I HAVE 6.5X47 W/.290 TIGHT NECK SHOTS BUGHOLE GROUPS .I THINK THE EXTRA WORK YOU DO YOU WILL BE PLEASED WITH IT.

If you don't turn necks, even if gun shoots good, you will always wonder if it would shoot better. So, get a .290" neck reamer, turn necks, and go shoot some small groups.

Erik, you said get a reamer, inside reamer? you do yours that way, most I hear of is neck turners like K&M, or am I just misunderstanding your terminology.
