In a 6.5 x 47 Lapua...... If you were going to try 85gr and/or 100gr Sierra varminters with Varget, what would your starting powder charge be? Right now I'm using 39gr of H4350 and CCI BR4 behind 120gr Nosler BTs.

Thanks in advance
Bob

Bob, FWIW I use Reloader 15 with 123 Scenars. 39.3 grains, bullet set .010 in. I use the same loads with 120 smk's except their kissing the lands.

Good Luck,
Dennis

Thanks Dennis. I have a good load for the 120s. I use Nosler BT for hunting and the 120 SMKs for paper. I am trying to get a load with some lighter bullets just for groundhogs. I have 85 gr and 100 gr Sierra varminters, I just don't know where to start with a powder charge. I plan on using Varget or H4350.

Bob, I tried 36.2 grains of varget with my 120's. CCI 450's.

Maybe start here and move up .4 grains (3 shot groups) until you get your answer. Just watch your brass closely and go from there.

I asked around and only found one person shooting lighter bullets. He was using 37.0 grains with 108 Scenars. So your probably pretty close.
