6.5 x 47

The factory loaded 6.5x47 ammo Dave Kiff had in his hands was probably a special run for a Euro shooting team. Right now no one even has the import permit for the new brass.

I wouldn't expect to see the 6.5x47 brass in the US for at least three months. Loaded ammo--who knows.

QuickLoad predicts it may be good for 2950fps with a 123gr Scenar with a 28" tube. Since the 6XC will drive the Tubb 115 to 3000 fps, I don't think 2950 is out of the question, given the larger bore diameter. I don't think the case has enough boiler room to drive the heavier,139-142gr) bullets, but I'm sure folks will try.

Editor in Chief...

Paul,
What speeds would a 6mm X 47 run, say with 105,107 and 115's. Can you run that on Quickload? Is Quickload your favorite software?

Is this "new" 6x47 the "Swiss Match" round or is it somewhat
different? Does anyone have the volume, water weight)?

Gary.

We're talking about the new 6.5x47 Lapua case, either straight or necked down. Many photos in recent blogs. See Nov. 8 Blog especially. Check the archives. Water capacity, untrimmed was 46.9-47.0 grains.

Here's the word from Lapua as of December 27, 2005:

"Robert,

We have not yet prepared information package of the 6.5x47 mm Lapua, but you will be in list of receivers when it is available.

Yes, I believe, too, that the 6.5x47 Lapua is good choice for both bolt guns and semi-autos. It will fit the same actions than the .308 Win. so it means that it will fit eg. the AR-10 type actions. Basically the 6.5x47 will provide ballistics equal to the 6.5x55 factory loads, which means that it will outperform the .308 Win.

Best regards,

Could you run QuickLoad for a heavier bullet, say a 139 gr Scenar? It would be interesting to see what would be likely with it.

I briefly shot a 0.132" short 6.5-08,6.5X) which seemed to top out a bit below 2,750 fps with a 139 gr Scenar and H4350 though I have long wondered about it as the barrel was a superb tomato stake.

With the new 130 grain Swift Sirrico,?) it would be an awsome hunting bullet as well.. A bc of .571!

What speeds do you think? 2700-2800?
