6.5 x 47 Lapua loads.

Hi guys, I'm about to get my first 6.5 x 47 Lapua from Cooper firearms and it has a 1 in 8 twist. I could do with some guidance for a load development. I expect to use 123 grain soft points as it will be for Deer as well as Fox and other vermin, I'd prefer just one load as that would save resetting the scope all the time.
So what have you used to good effect and what other loads do you like?
Thanks Andy.

Andy,
I found in my GA Precision gun that this load worked very well.
41g H4350
123 Sierra Matchkings
CCI 450 Primers
Lapua brass
Bullet loaded just touching the lands.

I 2nd KT's load, I am using exact same components except a tad more powder @ 41.2 grains in my 6.5X47L. The usual cautions apply.

I got a 26 " hart barrel in a 1-8 twist i shoot out to 600 yards in tactical matches with it i use RL 15 37.5 gr.CCI450 MAG. primer and 123 hornady Amax i get sub 1/2 moa with this load

A couple that work well for me in my Krieger 1:8.

40.8 H4350
Berger 130 VLD
CCI 450
Touching Lands

37.5 Varget
123 A-Max
CCI 450
.005" Off Lands

I can tell you as well. In both of my 6.5's I have had the best luck with berger 130's. I don't know how hard they are to get in the U.K. but I would look at trying them out.

40.3 H4350
Berger 130 VLD match
CCI 450
Lapua brass
bullet seated .12 in lands.

This load is right on the edge of being hot in my gun so work up slowly.

I know every rifle is different but I'm surprised 40.3 is on the edge for you..I have 4 6.5's and that is mild in all with the 130's

I have a GA Precision 6.5x47Lapua. Here's my load:

CCI BR-4
38.0 gr Varget
Berger 130 gr VLD .015" into the lands.

I know. I have seen where alot of guys are running. 41.5 to 42.5 with the 130's. I just can't. Not sure if it's because I jam the bullet in so far or what.

At 40.6 I start getting distinct ejector marks.

To chime in , I have two 6.5x47's that run the same loads, even though one was throated for 123gr bullets and one for 130/140gr bullets (there's almost 0.1" of difference in freebore), 130gr VLD seated 0.015" into the lands, 41.5gr H4350, Wolf SRM. Both also have the smaller firing pin hole (centerfeed Savage and Stiller TAC30). In both guns, 42.0gr didn't get me anything but slightly hard bolt lift and less accuracy.

I have been using 120gr sierra's with 37gr N150. Not a hot load but has been working out well. Anyway I am just about to try some 123 Amax with he same powder somewhere in the 37-38gr N150 range I expect. I haven't tried different powders as I haven't really had the time to put into this rifle yet. Hopefully over the Spring/Summer I'll get it singing....

6.5x47 Lapua
25" Bartlein barrel
123 AMAX
Borden action
CCI 450 primers

*** WORK UP TO THIS LOAD ***
41.5 gr. N550, bullet .010" in the lands. 3,000 fps. 1/4 MOA groups at 100 yards. It get extremely boring shooting an 8" round metal plate at 500 yards.

Because the manufacturer Vihtavuori powder (I use this powder) advocated non-magnum primers for this caliber ;)

What is the advantage of a primer magnum?

The CCI 450's have a thicker primer cup. So you don't have to worry about piercing the primers. Plus they shoot pretty darn good in my guns.
