6.5 x 47 cases fit

Hi,
Regarding 6.5 x 47 and Lapua cases.
Any one shed some light on why some cases go back into chamber after firing and some will be firm and then some will be tight?

Regards

Hi,
Yes, the cases have only been fired for the first time and with the same load.
I did have a similar issue with a different rifle and calibre, the chamber was polished and that fixed the issue. It did not help the 6.5 *47 by polishing the chamber.
Cheers

Do you mean just around the shoulder and neck?
Yes. NEVER try and anneal the lower section of any rifle case. The lower portion of cases are hardened and need to remain that way. Annealing the lower half in any can get dangerous very quickly.

Be sure you full length resize the hard to chamber/unchamber cases.. For any cases to get like that I would start full length resizing more often if your not doing it.. Trim length as well..

Hi,
I'm using 139 scenars, CCI450's and H4350. the velocity is 2873.
The cases were new unfired until I fired them for the first time with the above load.
Some cases will fit back in with no hard/tight closing feel on the bolt (firing pin and spring removed) and some I have to assist the bolt in closing (firm).
The fired cases that will not fit back in I full length sized and shot again with the same issues.

Thanks all for assisting me in solving this, the answers lets you try other avenues.

Depending on several factors, mainly free bore that could be a stiff load (pressure) also if you have a Min head space you could have a few long factory cases. Curios about before and after fired headspace measurements on brass. How is the bolt lift after firing on the tight ones?
I would be looking at pressure and FL sizing with enough bump. I started to see what you are seeing in a friends rifle with short FB. Mine is set up long and lets me run the 140's up higher.
General speaking (short of a slow barrel) your speeds would be consistent with a 170+ FB out of a 28"+ barrel.

The barrel is 28.5". The length to shoulder with my gauge varies by about .002" before and after firing. I have noticed that by reducing the load by up to 0.8grn the velocity only changed 20fps, is that normal with the 6.5x47?

Do the cases that don't fit need trimming? If the neck is too long you can get interference with the throat of the chamber and the very end of the neck.

Its not really an issue with the gun or the brass. Its just what happens when you run a load that hot.
