6.5 x 25 wssm

I am looking into experimenting with a 6.5 wssm cartridge. Has anyone out there tried this? Presently building bench gun in this caliber? I have the action, barrel and stock are ordered, also have obtained reamers and go-gauge. If anyone has been experimenting with this cartridge, I could use advice on the ups and downs you have experienced.

I built a 25wssm and if I build another I will have the neck reground on the reamer. the reason for this is the brass thickness in the neck is .020 thick it had so much spring back that the bullets were hard to seat and neck tension was inconsistent. I think these cartridges,WSSM) have real potential
as a hunting and target cartridges. but as the brass comes from winchester there is some to be desired. I think brass around 013-.014 would work a lot better I plan on make an expander mandrel big enough to make the necks fit loose enough to turn with a standard turning mandrel and have the reamer ground so things work much better. the one i built shot 1/2" groups at 100yrds with a nosler 85gr b-tip. with the necks a little thinner I think it could shoot much better. good luck and good shooting,
treeman

I have a 6.5-243wssm and a friend of mine has a 6.5-25wssm. Both guns seem to shoot very well. My friend shoots more matches than I do but he has done very well for several years with his. I have shot five matches with mine and was in the money 3 times with it so far. Both of our guns use a .300 diameter neck size on the reamer. If your chamber allows you to seat bullets above the donut area and is between .296-.300 diameter you should do ok!!!

...I built one last Fall.....very nice shooter.

There is an article in the latest Varmint Hunter by Norman Johnson. He built 2 40-x's in this caliber and is very pleased with it.
