6.5 WSSM

I am working on a 6.5 WSSM. The load is at the desired speed with no pressure signs on the case. The only problem is the bolt is hard to lift. If you bump the shoulders back on a fired case, it is still tight, to me it acts like the brass isn't springing back. I was hoping somebody who has had success with this case could give me a solution.

Thanks for any help, Charles

Charles, The WSSM brass necks are very thick. You may want to check and see if you have clearance in your chamber. I have played with all of the standard WSSM calibers. The brass is much different than regular brass. Just a note. Bill

Thanks Bill, I have turned the necks, a bullet will slide in and out of a fired case. The only thing I could come up with is,the brass is so thick, it just will not spring back. I'm just hoping somebody has experienced this same problem, and found a solution.

Thanks again, Charles

Maybe someone will chime in for you. I think you are right to be honest with you. You may be able to turn a little more and help things but the problem is getting it so thin that you are working it too much. Wish I could be more help. Bill

Charles, I have several rifles chambered in wssms. On a fired case my bolts are hard to lift also, and the load is safe. I think the problem is the case is so short and it being a high pressure round,65k psi)there is not much brass to grab the sides of the chamber so you get a lot of trust back into the bolt createing the hard bolt lift. On the fired case that you have bumped back, i'm not sure but maybe try bumping a little more and see what happens, may require more than a "normal" case does.

Thanks for the info. It just may be the nature of the case. I read on this site that several people were shooting this case with success, if any of those shooters read this post, let me know if there is anyway to eliminate this problem.

Thanks, Charles

annealing helps with the sizing operation!!! I have had nothing nut good luck with my 6.5-243wssm so far!!!
