6.5 wsm

Barrel life very short. However, if the use of H1000 for lower pressure works at increasing barrel life for the 6.5 SAUM, then the same should be true for the 6.5 WSM.

Has anyone really ever attempted to get a reasonable amount of barrel life from one? Most I know just hammer the piss out them and keep a spare barrel on hand.

I played with one for a hunting rifle. The case is too small for H1000. I still have it but with brass availability I lost interest..

Edit, never mind I had WSSM in my head... old age, lol

The WSM has more case capacity than the saum.
Only about 10 grains. I am building a 270 IMP SAUM, but I shortened the body to lose capacity.

They built lots of them 6.5 WSM for 1000 yard BR. None of them ever shot good. One guy shortened the body three times. He told me he thought he was getting close to it shooting. Then he got married and sold his match guns. Matt

So, the smaller case capacity of the saum and new Hornady PRC give better accuracy with the 6.5 bullets? The PRC is too new but what have been the results with the saum at 1000? I'm thinking about a 7.5 twist to handle the SMK 150.

The 7 SAUM does good at 1000 yards but that is a 180 grain bullet. It does way better them the 7 WSM and 6.5 WSM did. Matt

I have/had a 6.5 WSM. Alex is going to make it into a 7 SAUM. Sizing brass was easy. But doughnuts were a given and a pain to deal with. I had good accuracy with a 143 ELDX and RL 26 at about 3080. Very similar to a 6.5 SAUM or 6.5-06 AI and .264 win mag. If your going to make on i would highly suggest getting a custom reamer and have the freebore set for 150's that do you make you seat past the should neck junction.
