6.5 wsm vs 6.5-284

would a 6.5wsm be comparable to a 6.5-284? i think i want to do a 6.5 for my next build. I was thinking about doing something off of the beaten path. Any thougths?

The 6.5 WSSM would be better if you like the mag bolt face...

as mag bolt face fat and efficient I will go with 300 RUSM case neck down with a shoulder set back to allow a 0.325 neck, 25° to 35° will works )

even a 25 WSSM blown out will work with just a bit more than 260 REM case water capacity, only problem with WSSM case is the very spring brass and the problem to get chamber seal

stay in factory shoulder angle make custom ''home made '' dies easy but converting existing die in bushing use

but 6.5/284 have enought powder room to allow to launch 139/142 fast enought at 1k

I like that 25wssm idea. I kinda would like something that will work in a short action and feed through a mag. I dont want to do a 6.5-284. i really want to do something different. I want to build it as a "tactical" style gun. I figure if i keep it in a short action the stock selection is alot better.

built a tactical on a Win 70 is not impossible, WIN 70 action is faster to use than Rem 700 and you doesn t risk to keep the bolt handle in your hand

regular neck of the 25 WSSM is 0.301 that very thick for a .257 and close to max for a 0.264 caliber

you can stay in 0.301 and request a lead of 0.2 on 0.2645 diameter
as first trial I will go with straight no improved 6.5/25 WSSM and record velocity, that surely enought for 1K shooting, same as 260 REM ) and very confortable at 600 yards

For tactical shooting the 260 is very tough to beat. I have shot them a lot in tactical matches and the 6.5x284s also. I think the 6.5x284 is the best but to hard on barrels. The 260 gives you the best of both worlds in the tactial arena. Just my thoughts on this.

Having been down the wildcat path on numerous occasions I actually settled on the 6.5 X 284 as all of the alternatives would take too much time, effort and money. I've gradually arrived at the position of shoot more, work less.

Just get a standard length action,the advantages of a short action are seriously overstated and minimal at best), seat the bullets long and shoot. You'll never find brass as good as the last lot of Lapua from Remington or Winchester,not that they can't make good brass, they've both made limited production runs of excellent brass in the past, they just choose not to).

If interested I have 250, 6.5 saum. Brand new made from 7saum. Full prep and neck turned to .291 loaded diameter. Also have 6.5x300saum dies new. Changed mind on project. 140's loaded to mag length have a touch more capacity than 6.5/284.

isn't the 6.5x300 Saum considered to be a 6.5 Rocket? I know the wildcats have funny or many different names, but I think I actually read that somewhere.

The label on the Redding die box reads 6.5/300 SAUM. Who knows what someone else has come up with?

reading all about that stuff is interesting, but...

is that 6,5/.25WSSM only an idea, something to talk about, or has someone REALY made it.

I´m just interested who would made reamers for a cartridge like that?

I now have 3 guns chambered in my 6.5 Heaton case.Mine is based on the 243wssm case.But I do use 25wssm brass in my daughters heavy BR gun...It is a quite impressive little case.Runs pretty close with the 6.5-284 for velocity with the 140 class bullets.This will be the 3rd 1000 yard Br season for mine...Still learning
