6.5 WSM Getting Started Help

I just bought a new project. It is a Rem 700 action with a XX Premium Air Gauged Douglas barrel with a brake chambered in 6.5 WSM. This unit is UNFIRED
I am fairly new to wildcats other than the 6-284 Ive recently been playing with.
In the 6-284 I just ran my 6.5-284 brass thru a new set of Hornady 6-284 dies I purchased online. That was EASY
With this 6.5 WSM I have some dies that came with the gun and some 270 WSM Brass
Dies are:
Redding Type S Bushing Style 270 WSM with a .293 bushing
Forster Bench Rest Seater That has 260 REM on the box marked out and someone wrote 6.5 WSM on the box.

Do I just run the brass thru the Redding Die and I am done?
Are these 2 dies all I need?
How do I know for sure the Seater is going to work?
Like I said I am new to the wildcat game but fairly knowledgeable when it comes to reloading and making everything precise.
Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks

I built one about 5 years ago.it is a great round and use mine for strictly hunting. The redding bushing die will work for resizing as long as it's a full length die. As far as a seater die I'm not sure about the 260 die if that doesn't work try C&H Tool and Die that's where I got mine from. My loaded rounds measure .296 so your 293 bushing is probably in the ballpark. Resize a brass and see if it chambers and then shoot a round measure the neck diameter and then subtract 3 thou. from that and that should give you your proper neck bushing. I use RL 17 in my 6.5WSM 55.0 gr. 9.5 Rem primer with a 140 VLD's at 3180 fps. THIS IS MAX LOAD FOR MY GUN so start low and work up. If your barrel is a 1-8 twist you can probably shoot up to 140's, if it's faster you're probably gonna have to try 130's or maybe 120's

I use 270 WSM brass and just run it thru the sizer die. I turned the necks to clean them up. My neck sized OD is .293 and my loaded round neck OD is .2945 I have been playing with some 140 A Maxxs and using some Retumbo and some H 1000. So far I am down to 1.250 inch groups at 300 meters but I know I can tighten them up even more. I have a 1 in 8 twist Krieger.

Everything is looking good
My .293 bushing allows my brass to chamber and my loaded round neck measured .294.
I too am loading up 140 A Max with 4831 and H1000.
I had it explained to me that the 260 Forster Seater was probably reamed out to fit this cartridge and it is doing a fine job seating the 140s.
My OACL is 2.935 touching the lands.
How far do you guys seat off the lands?

Every bullet and barrel combo is different it's just something you have to experiment with. Try kissing the lands and then back off or vice-a-versa your combo will let you know what it likes, just don't jam to hard into the lands or you will get a pressure spike. I could not get the VLD'S to shoot until I backed them off about 10 thou.

My 6.5WSM is built on an older tang safety Ruger with a 1-8 twist Lilja barrel and is mounted with a Huskema scope with the turret made for this gun. It took me a year to develope a load shoot it out to 1,000yds. and get the data to have my turret made. This combo just flat shoots when I do my part, it just takes awhile to do it right so good luck. I could not get mine to shoot the slower powders 4350 wasn't bad but when I tried RL17 that's when it started to shine

Well I have broke the barrel in slow and cleaned frequently and this gun is driving me crazy.
40 rounds down the tube and I haven't got the groups I am looking for.
I have tried H-1000 and RL 22
62 gr RL 22
64 gr H-1000
I just received new Norma brass I ordered and I am going to load up some 4831sc and maybe some 4350.
So far it is shooting the 140 A Max better than the 130 Bergers. So I picked up a box of 140 Berger VLD to try.
Back to the reloading room!!!!!!

This gun went from being a pain in my a$$ to one of my favorites overnight.
After bedding the recoil lug ( which had a lot of play) and going to different scope base this thing has turned around. Seating 140 Berger VLDs just kissing the lands over 58 grs of 4831sc produced a nice little cloverleaf at 100 yds and a 2.5 inch group at 600. I still cant believe it.

A good powder to try is Retumbo with the 140's
My rifle loves the 142 SMK and 67.0 grns of Retumbo.I have some of the A-Maxs and feel they will
shoot very good as well.Love this cartridge I have found out that you can get carried away searching and searching for that magic group pretty easily,I'm glad that I found such a good shooting combo for my rifle.I like Retumbo because it has proven very accurate and
it gives great velocity and is an Extreme powder not effected as bad by temp changes.Have fun with your rifle, its great to bust 'chucks or p.d.'s way out there.Been also thinking this would be a dandy cartridge for bigger game if my rig did'nt weigh 19lbs
Matt

I have been looking for Retumbo but cant seem to find it around here anywhere. I have a 7mm mag getting a new barrel and wanted to try it under the 168s as well as in this 6.5wsm.
I don't know what one thing turned this 6.5 wsm into a shooter. Since last weekend I have bedded the recoil lug, tweeked on the factory trigger, installed new one piece scope base, loaded up some 140 Berger VLDs, and also lightened up the load by going from 60-64 gr of powder down to 58 grs. Whatever it was, this gun really impressed me today.
