6.5 vmax vs varmageddon?

Well I attempted to load some 95gr vmaxes today and got blowups at 3150fps, in a 8 twist. Are the noslers a stronger jacket? I had a decent node but started getting no holes in the target. I was really hoping to get in the 3250+ range.

Of the mainstream varmint bullets, my experience has been that V-Maxes are the most frangible. Nosler, Sierra and Berger would likely be better in a fast twist barrel.

You were just getting very good groups.

There isn't any way that should happen. They are made to handle alot more. What barrel ? Factory ? Aftermarket ? New ? I've shot them extensively -8twist/Krieger. No problem over 3300.

Factory savage. It does get alot of copper, pretty normal for savage though. It had about 30 rounds down it, and def wasnt hot. I had some high hopes I was getting some great groups between 41.5-42gr varget, 6.5 cm

You might give Speer 90 gr TNTs a try. They are a little tougher bullet than Vmax and are not hard to get to shoot very well. They are cheap also.

Would excessive copper fouling blow bullets? There was actually a buildup of copper on the crown. Whats crazy, is this barrel consistently shoots in the .2-.4’s

I had one Savage 116 that would shoot 3/8" groups for 9 shots, then due to copper fouling, groups would open to 1.25" by 20 shots.

Yes, rough barrels will tear up bullets.

As a hunting rifle, you do not shoot much at a time. An over night soaking routine with a product like Wipe out Liquid will make life easier for you. Also, get a bore scope.

I shoot the 95 vmax through 9 twist no problem. 3250 fps Your right the 8 twist may be to much.
