Just put a rifle together using a Rem 700 action and a Barrel Bros. barrel I had bought from them when they had a sale back in the spring. Been trying out some loads, but usually nothing less than 2" except for the 95gr Vmax over AA2230, then maybe an inch.
Loaded up some more to try with 90gr speer tnt, 95vmax, 100gr speer hp and 100gr amax., and shot on Tuesday, still no joy on paper, but was shooting the remaining at our steel buffalo at the range. Some of the shots seemed to be grouping decent, so had 4 rounds of the 100gr speer and the 95 vmax left, so back on paper. The speer went into 3/4" with one pulled round opening it to 1.25" and the 95 Vmax was just under 1/2" with one pulled out to 1". Was using the factory xmark trigger
.
Went to the range yesterday and the only thing that seemed to work was the 95Vmax. Had went up to 28.1gr AA2230 (2819fps) but had only loaded 9 rounds, so one over the chrony, three on paper and last 5 to check sight settings for our Varmint Silhouette matches, which is what I built the rifle for.
Remembered the other 6.5 barrel I had bought from the Barrel Bros. needed about 100rnds down the tube to settle down, seems like this one did too.
Only three shots on paper but sure beats the 2"+ groups I was getting at first.
