6.5 Sherman Short Tactical

I’ve struggled finding anything really about this cartridge apart from it’s performance, which is without doubt fantastic. The only brass I can see is from the Sherman website. I’d love to know more about it, along the lines of possible way to form brass, barrel life and any first hand experiences with said cartridge.

As mentioned, longrangehunting has a ton of info. Also, reach out to Rich Sherman and he’ll take the time to answer your questions.

Brass= Any saum brass you can find. You’ll have to size and neck turn. You can also buy the ADG brass but it cost way too much. Yes I bought some but feel guilty about doing so.

If you go to his website, it tells the difference between the cases. I haven’t looked back, but think that the difference between the SS and tactical is shoulder angle.

I may have some results to share soon enough- have run the converted Norma brass and just got some of the ADG. When I looked at making the brass myself, the 4? steps and dies required made $2/ea case seem like a deal?

Plus from what I hear the ADG brass is quite tough. They are supposed to be making 7 SAUM brass pretty quick. The SST has less angle in the shoulder and keeps a little body taper if Im remembering correctly and is a little shorter possibly than the regular SS. He did this so the SST was better suited to load and feed from AI mags for the PRS crowds where the 6.5 SS was developed as a LRH cartridge for long high BC bullets and still work in a SA for hunting. All are based off the SAUM case.

I wouldn't form brass for the SS or SST anymore, the ADG quality and toughness more than out weights the cost vs forming it from SAUM brass!!
