6.5 SAUM powders

I have read quite often that H1000 is the powder for the 6.5 SAUM. However, I currently don't have any. I do have WC857 and WC870, I have looked for burn rate charts, but haven't found ones that include WC powders. I played around with them in my 264WM, but hard to get much velocity out of them, I'm thinking they are too slow. Probably worse in the smaller 6.5?

Without H1000, what's the next best?

If you use Winchester powders, use a magnum primer. Federal Gold Magnum Match or CCi450 for small primer brass.

I would most definitely try Retumbo in the SAUM case my 6.5WSM absolutely loved it. It burns cool and I was pleasantly surprised that the throat still looks so good considering the amount of powder it burns.

My 6.5 SAUM loves H1000 as well. I would look everywhere humanly possible to find it, as it really is great in this cartridge. If no bueno, I would be looking at VV160 as a possible substitute. My load with H1000 is such a low pressure load it is almost funny. Bolt opens like butter with a 140 Hornady at 2950 fps. Good luck and keep looking.

On my 4th 6.5 Saum, pretty much any 4350 burn or higher powder will work. My go to powders for speed and accuracy were RL-17 &26 which are both pretty much unavailable. I'm using them strictly as hunting rifles so I'm not shooting any heavy for caliber bullets , mainly 127 gr LRX which will hit 3300 fps in a 22 inch barrel. My bud is hitting 3375 in a 24 inch Lilja tube.

Mine is strictly a hunting rifle and shoots 156s with N570 at 3200 very well. It shoots comparably well with H1000 but doesn't have the near as much speed.
