6.5 reload with N150

Hi,

I going to try reload.
The riffel is a new 6.5x55 SE

I am going to load

Bullet Norma FMJ 120 gr Bullet weight 7.8 g / 120 gr B.C 0.428 C.O.L 72.5 mm / 2.854 # 20665141

I have some N150 powder (Vihtavuori N150).
Would a 38 grain starting load be correct?

No that sounds like a maximum load. Question:. Where did you get your data? Especially starting out, I'd highly recommend you always get at least 3-sources of load data and compare.

In this case, Vhitavouri has online data. In order to meet their loads, you must:

Seat longer. Shorter seating depth means less internal volume which results in higher pressure. Try starting at 77.0mm, ~3.031"

35.6gr listed as starting load. See what else you can find online. Being a new rifle, I'm guessing you don't already have a feel for if the rifle handles near maximum loads ok.

Read lots more on this forum and keep asking questions. Best case you learn a new hobby, worst case, well it's your face, so take all the internet info with a grain of salt and double verify.

It's sometimes difficult to find the exact combination you want to load for. Occasionally you can extrapolate the data found then use starting loads for safety. Here is such an example:

VV has a free reloading app for their powders. Why not be resourceful and use that?

VV manual has 120 Scenar L load data for N150.

Here is Vihta Vuori's load data for a modern 6,5x55 SE.

If you're not using the exact same components, barrel length, and twist rate as the load data uses, then the rule of thumb is to start low and work your way up. Take note of the load data's specified overall length, and the fact they've used a Lapua Scenar, not a Norma FMJ.

VV has a free reloading app for their powders. Why not be resourceful and use that?

Cool app i have just downloaded it tnx
It showed the start load of 35.6 grains with a 2 cm shorter barrel.
I will work my way up from that and add entries in the diary.
