6.5 projectiles

It seems that the 139-142 gr pills in various makes are definately king of the hill for the longer ranges.

Just wondering if anyone is using any lighter pills in the 6.5 for shorter ranges for varmints and paper punching?

What do you use and how do they rate?

Cheers

The 100gr Sierra Varmint bullet has shown excellent accuracy in every 6.5 caliber gun I've tried in with--6.5x55, Rem 260, 6.5-284. It's cheap and it isn't fussy about seating depth. The Nosler 120 is VERY accurate and is an excellent large varmint projectile.

As for paper punching, the 123gr Scenar is the best kept secret in the accuracy world. It has a .547 BC, and, in most guns, will group tighter, with fewer "flyers" than any of the 140gr class bullets. But the really cool part, is the bullet is good for 150 fps over a 142 SMK with no pressure problems. Takes a Rem 260 right into 6.5-284 territory, and shoots real well at 2950-2980 fps. The 123 is also length-tolerant. Shoots well jumped up to .030" or so. Mine seems to work best jumped .015-.020" in a 6.5-08 case.

I shot my deer with a 6.5BR and a Sierra 100g HP. Expanded nicely and left a golf ball size exit. Dead deer. Haven't tried it for Varmints yet.
