6.5 prc loads

I am about to start loading for my 6.5 prc. Im going to try out the 156 eol bergers and the 143 eld-x bullets. I dont have a lot to play with so looking for anyone's experience with seating depth on these 2 bullets as far as jump. Some bullets do ok some dont regardless of advertise being insensitive to jump. Just looking for a base point to try starting loads at a known jump they will be okay with.

I shoot both in 6.5 CM and 6.5 RSAUM. They are both pretty easy to tune. My jumps are between 0.020 and 0.035. Hope that helps.

BTW, I tried N570 with the 156 EOL in my RSAUM and am getting over 3200 fps with incredible accuracy. Its an amazing combo in my rifle for LR hunting.

Thanks. Ill start arround there and try. I loaded up on n565 while i could find it. Reports are good with that powder. I just hope its good in my rifle!

I had a .130 freebore in my last PRC so I seated the 156 at .050 jump which allowed me to feed from the Wyatts box at 2.970ish.
They shot so good there I never bothered to try any other depths.
The 143 is not picky either and most factory loads are around .040-.050 jump also in the .188 freebore.

I just got done putting together a 6.5 PRC with a 24" Proof barrel. I broke the barrel in with factory Hornady 143gr eld-x ammo. It had .050 of jump to the lands and shot 1/2 groups @100 yards. Took that same ammo out to 500 yards and shot a 2-3/4 group with it. I built the rifle to shoot 156gr Berger's and with Reloader 26 the best accuracy has been around 2950 fps. I tried a few different seating depths and .010 off the lands was the sweet spot. One big hole @ 100 yards and when I shot it @ 500 yards 3 shots were just under 1"
I tested from .010 to .030 in .005 increments and the biggest group @ 500 yards was 3"

Well i just loaded a few to try out. In order for the rounds to fit in the blind box mag its a long jump. I ended up seating them at bergers seating depth spec. Its .143 jump on my rifle unless i want to single feed. This is intended for hunting so need to fit in mag. Ill see what it does in 2 weeks when i take it out. Thanks for the replies.

As far as the sweet spot & bullet jump is concerned, it's impossible to predict IMO.

Shooting the 156 EOLs in my Proof 6.5PRC barrel requires a significantly different jump depending on which powder I use. Retumbo provided very tight groups with bullets .055" off the lands. But when I switched to RE26 I had to reduce the jump all the way down to .010" to return the accuracy.

I was always under the belief that once you determined how much jump a rifle/bullet combo preferred that it never changes, That has proven to be untrue. Predicting how much jump anyone else's rifle would prefer is just guesswork.

I was aware of that. It was just a question to see what other people were finding. I am not able to seat as long as i would like due to mag restrictions. I want this to feed from the blind box mag for hunting purposes.

Here is a load. I only have H4350 and new Lapua brass. Bergara Ridge. 53 grains H4350 with 124 grain Hammer Hunter. 10 thou off the lands and Fed 210 primers. This was at 200 yards. No idea what the velocity is yet. Had an ejector mark on one piece of brass.

Nice group

I’m currently working with H4831SC and 150 SMK. It’s a 7.5 twist Brux. Seating them to 2.97 to fit Accurate Mags. Still working on powder charge but at 53.2 I’m only at 2825. Going to work up another 1.5 grains or until I hit pressure.

I couldn’t get as fast as I was hoping for with 4831-sc with 150 smk and had to move to rl-26
