6.5 PRC Build: looking for advice from someone shooting one

Im shooting one with a 156 berger eol at 2.955.. its a little below the neck and shoulder junction with the start of the bearing surface.. shoots in the .3's and feeds good in a aics wsm magazine.. i know thats not what your looking for but its information for ya

I am also shooting one using 156 Bergers. OAL is 3.005. They will not fit in the mag. I run a single feed sled and single feed them. The factory ammo loaded with 147 ELDM's will fit in the mag and for hunting purposes shoot quite well. Sub MOA quite well but this is with a 30" straight 1.25 4 groove Kriger barrel mounted on a BAT VR action. I thought I had the 156's shooting .5 MOA until I got to Arizona. They opened up to over an MOA and I was dropping points everywhere. Still not sure why they were shooting at home and fell apart down there.

No magic in this game! No perfect rifle! Everything will be a compromise when it comes to rifles!

I fall pray to this myself at times too much thinking not enough doing.

My dad used to call it "information paralysis" and had a hard time with some junior officers because they just could not make a timely decision on the actionable intelligence they had.

The Mauser 98 is a fantastic example of a medium length action. Prior to 1980 I dare say more 284 Win's were built on Mauser actions than any other single action because they are perfect length and were dirt cheap.

Short actions are an idea that never made any sense and make even less sense today then they did in the past. They were mostly a solution looking for a problem. By the time a shot action makes sense what we are really talking about is a mini-action for 223 Rem and 7.62x39 and the like. In fact what we call standard or long actions in the USA have been marginal at best for a long time. What they should have done is 2 decades ago Remington, Savage, Winchester, Ruger should have lengthened both their short actions and their standard length actions. Ruger, Savage and Remington short actions are way too short.
