6.5 or 6BR?

I was thinking of going with a 6.5x47 (or 260 or creedmoor) vs 6BR with a McMillan Varmint stock and varmint contour barrel, more for the bench, shooting out to 500 yards, if I'm interested maybe future club shoots, maybe varmint down the road...I reload...Thought about also posting this in the 6BR forum but will see here first.

For your stated application, the 6 BR will beat anything else.
This^^^^^ I have a 260AI and love it. But my 6 br is just plain awesome. Building another and going to try for a repeater ( Wyatts centerfeed box ) in a lighter weight, tactical/varmint rifle. If none of your buddies have a BR, and you shoot with them often after building one, they will be soon following you in a build of their own.

Easy to load for and to shoot - you can’t really go wrong. I have one the nesika bay varminter in light target contour - everyone who has shot it, shot it well. I agree with moondog - if I could only keep one, it’d be my BR

Good luck with your build.

Gerald

Back in 2008 i was looking for the same thing and wound up with a 6br on a McMillan Sako Varmint stock, Before I knew it I was using it for everything from G-Hog matches to live varmints. The only reason i had a 6.5x47L built is so I would stop doing stupid things with the BR (500++++yard shots) where i needed more energy on live targets. I love them both but out to 500, the 6br is a pleasure to shoot plus less recoil and 10 grains less powder.

The 6 BR is the first choice. Unless there is something about the rules of the format that you shoot such that the heavier 6.5 comes to the front.

I'm on board with the 6BR too. The only problem with it is it may bore you to tears. Trying to find a bad load is really tough.:p

Yeah I see that more brass is due sometime in March, wonder why the shortage?
Speculation contends that existing stocks are being allowed to be reduced while their distribution network & dealer structure is being reorganized. Then again, that’s just speculation. ;)
