6.5 mpc

does anyone know anything about this specific round. seems good, but i dont know if i would have to get special dies or anuthing else? i dont even know ballistics, but i would think they would be okay because of the 6.5 bullet. or if anyone makes them? thanks, brian

The 6.5 MPC is nothing more than a 6.5/223. As such it's a wildcat and would require it's own reamers, dies, etc.

It would seem to me that it would not be the best cartridge for long range, too little capacity) and would probably be bested at short range by numerous others. Maybe that's why it's called Multi Purpose Catridge? Just what we need. Another small cartridge for the AR. JMHO

SSK is the place to call about it. Maybe they consider it proprietary?

i know. i get a lot of flak about asking for cartriges for the Ar, but thats what i have to work with. everybody tells me to go with the 6.8 spc, or the 6.5 grendal, because there are already parts availible. but whats the fun in that? i am wanting to make my own barrel from a barrel blank, so i want to try to find somthing that when i go to the range, people are interested. i am just trying to find MY all around best cartrige. i think its between the 6x45, 6.5x45, and the 300 whisper.,although i am hearing that the whisper is a hard and expensive round to produce.) well see, i just dont want to limit myself to products that are mass produced, and already made, that every one already has. is it the best way to go? i dont know, but ill just have to find out. thanks guys, any more, input on which way to go is always appreciated. brian

I have been trying to find information on the 6.5 mpc and been reading on the 6x45 myself. From what I understand that 6.5 has the shoulder pushed back to it can take up to 120 grain bullets. A few 6x45 shooters complain that they cannot use some of the bullets that they want and still fit the magazines.

I started a search for some existing wildcats that might be nothing more or the equivlant of the 6x45 shortened to be able to accept at least the 105 grain 6mm bullets.

I thought I wanted a 6.5 Grendal and I guess in a way i still do but I am starting to think I want something that will fit into the magazines as is. I don't want customs magazines or to go to a larger bolt face. I am instead now trying to learn what the most versitile cartridge that can be just a barrel change replacement for the 5.56.

I am sure the cartridge that I want is already out there someplace, I have just not learned about it yet.

I hope you will earn more and share with us.

I have AR's in 6x45 and 6x45 AI/ aka...6mm TCU. They are both excellent shooters in the AR. Definately a bit more energy, less wind drift. The same weight bullets will shoot faster in the 6mm versions, better barrel life, Accuracy is just as good or better than most 223 AR's i've had. You can legally hunt deer in most states with either cartridge. I have gotten sub half moa with the 6x45 in an AR.
