6.5 lapua

getting a 6.5x 47 lapua together. hs precision stock. savage target action. #8 contour 1 in 8 pac nor. 26". with another 1.5" of muzzle break. want to shoot rl-15. have 140 a-max and 123 a-max. need somewhere to start and maximum overall length.using fed 205 match primers. also still gotta get dies and not sure if i wanta spend 250 on redding . any recommendations?????? course still waiting on brass. ohh brother. ordered barrel last august. brass everywhere then. :(

I am using a Redding bushing F/L sizer and a Forster Bench Rest Seater Die(Not Ultra) with good results. That should save you some green.
You rifle will dictate seating length.

I'd still like what the books call for max overall length. What the hell happen to the hornady modified case? I guess I can put some marker on there and get quick and find out where the lands are. wonder why they discontinued it? Since they're a-max probably shot best seated back from the lands. well from what I've experienced with other a-maxes.

Its not hard to make a modified case. Buy a 5/16x36 tap. drill out the back of a case and tap it. takes less than five minutes. I did it for my 6brx and for a 7stw cause I couldnt find the stw anywhere. I believe the tap is around 35.00 at enco.

Around 38gr rl15 with the 123s works in most rifles. rl15 a bit too fast burning for 140s. better to look at slower powders eg Rl17, n550 and h4350.

3rd Generation Shooting Supply has 6.5x47 Lapua brass in stock now at a reasonable price.

RL 15 at 37.3 gr works very well in my 30" barrel with 130 gr Berger VLD's.

Hornady will make you a modified case for about $15 including shipping. You just sent them one of your fired brass. You can call them for details.

First, I shot with a person who was using 123 A-Max's in his 6.5x47L. He has tried all and is settled on this bullet for his!

My 6.5x47 loves 120 SMK's, ? 123 Scenars are second but dayum close!

I can find out his 123 A-Max load if interested!

Second, send me a few fired cases and I will drill and tap them for your Hornady OAL tool. Send a padded self addressed envolope to send back. Won't take me 5 minutes!

Great advice for a great gun, don't shortchange at this point! Dies are just as important as gun components!

Glass is the same way, I still say NightForce is the best for the money!

Forster dies, you can have the neck on the sizing die reamed by them for only 12.00 to whatever neck diamater your chamber is set at. FAST turnaround, great people to deal with, great dies, I have the miro adjustables seating die.

yes I'd certainly like the load. my brass is supposed to be here in 2 weeks. we'll see. lol. thanks a bunch. I may just do that. you've all been very helpful.

grafs has brass , I am in process of a build on a rem 700 action and a shilen #7 light varmit at 26 inch select stainless match, I may just use my 260 rem dies, dimensions all the same other then one being 47 and the other being 51mm for just necking and seating with redding S-type neck and comp seating die.

just ordered everything I need. 3rd generation was out. grafs had brass. now I'll have 200 when others arrive. got dies you suggested. now just gotta get my scope ready and mounted and it'll be a waiting game.

OMG. I got 770 yards right up over the hill. still gotta work up some loads. probabably won't be able to do it fast enough. loaded up first 5 rounds this evening. gotta get it broke in.
