2osok,

You didn't specify What you were hunt and not sure what your definition of "long range" hunting is or how good your equipment is.. I compete in F-Class at 1000 yards on a regular basis. A lot of that experience at 1000 yards was with a 6.5x284 with 140 VLD Bergers. I now have a 6.5x47. The 130 grain VLD Bergers are a much better fit for the smaller, more efficient case.
Use the 130 gn. HUNTING VLD's and on game up to the size of Large Mule Deer out to 600 yards you WILL NOT be disappointed. I have used the HUNTING VLD's on Whitetail and large hogs here in Texas and have never taken a second shot. If you place the bullet in the boiler room of an animal the VLD's are Devastating to the internal organs creating a humane and quick kill, no tracking a wounded animal. Also they are BY FAR more accurate at long range than "Super" Hunting bullets.

I have used 130 grain 6.5 mm Accubonds to great success on Whitetails for quite a while. Last year was the first time I was able to recover a bullet and it mushroomed perfectly only losing Part of one petal retaining 73% of the original weight. Both the buck and I were impressed with the bullets performance.

I used the 120spt in a .264Win mag a couple of years ago to take an very large elk cow at 300yds. it was a qtr away shot. didn't get full pass thru, the bullet was in the hide of off shoulder, part of it was still in would channel, a couple inches from the hide. I was very impressed. I used the same bullet in a .260rem to deer hunt with, and it never let me down there either. it was more accurate than I thought. not sure if you consider 300yds long range or not, that is the extent of my long range hunting. If it's farther than that, then the bergers will probably be much better suited!

I have used 160 Woodleighs in a 6.5x55. They are pretty heavily constructed and I hve never recovered one from any shot on deer. They always completely penetrate with a quarter size exit hole. Despite this, the deer don't run more than 15-20yds after a lung shot, not at all after a shoulder or frontal shot.
Suspect they would do well on larger animals.
