6.5 grendel

I am wanting to build a 6.5 Grendel bolt gun. I purchased a Pac-Nor 6.5 barrel blank that has a 1:12 twist from a guy. Is this to much twist or what grain bullet would this be good for? please let me know your opinions it would be greatly appreciated.

Well I realize the 1:8and 1:9 twist would be better. But I already have the 1:12 twist blank is the reason I asked what size bullet would work

83 to 94 gr bullet. I made some 107gr BT's with an 8cal point that shot well in a Grendel with a 9 twist, but a 12 is too slow for
any heavy bullets in a Grendel.

I know where your coming from trying to work with what you have.
But the 85-90 grain 6.5mm bullets can be pretty hard to find
something to consider

Too much? Not hardly, if you expect to shoot anything heavier than maybe an 85-90 grain bullet as others have said. Given the unmodified case capacity it's a cartridge best suited to bullets under 131 grains anyway & those'd need a 1:8. Limit yourself to 107's & you could go with a 1:9 but why bother when the 119 - 123's shoot so good in a 1:8 & the 107's will too.

If it's an unchambered & unfitted barrel now you may be better off finding it a new home rather than spend good money having it cut to fit then find yourself limited to the lighter weight .260" bullets. There are some good ones - make no mistake - so it depends on what you intend to do with it in the end I guess.

Well no cost machining and chambering. Im a machinist and have personal equipment, this would not be my first barrel. I greatly appreciate all the info. Thanks

Even with "free labor" involved, you might want to opt for a different barrel (faster twist) and sell this one or use for another project. Just not a good assortment of light enough bullets out there in this caliber.
