Anyone making reamers and die sets for the 6.5 Grendel? Is anyone chambering customers barreled action in this cal.?
any help on this project will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,

I'm sure reamers are available from any of the big name reamer makers such as Dave Kiff, Henriksen, Clymer, etc. Any of the better gunsmiths are probably set up to chamber for it. But, before you get that far, have you considered one of the newer cartridges? Specifically, the 6x47 SM or the 6.5x47 LAPUA. Either of those would be much more versatile rounds than the Grendl which is really nothing but a PPC Improved. It's worth looking into if you haven't already done so. JMHO

Unless he's shooting an AR-15.

I was going to mention that but forgot. Which reminds me, can't an AR be used with the 308 rim cartridges? With some modifications? Or, do all those big cartridges like the Beowolf, etc use a 222 bolt face?

The Grendl does have a bigger rim diameter than the 222 but I have seen some where the guys have lathe turned the rims of their brass rather than alter the bolt. Not being an AR owner or shooter it's all way beyond my expertise., Not that I have any expertise.)

Some ARs are made to use the russian 7.62 round. that will have the same basic case as the grendal. should be a perfect fit to an AR.

The 6.5 Grendel and its derivatives fit in the AR-15. All 308-based cartridges, and that would include the 6.5X47 as it shares the 308's head diameter) must be chambered in AR-10 types. The AR-15 simply cannot accommodate anything with an OAL larger than 2.25". Also, the AR-15 bolt cannot be safely opened to accept a .478" rim. You can get bolts and magazines made for the Grendel and turn any 223 AR15 into a 6.5 G. You may want to slightly open up the ejection port, tho.

Thanks guys, but I'm planning on using this in a bolt gun, and the reasons are two-fold; 1)Longer barrel/throat life 2)Less powder capacity for same ballistics as the 6.5X47 with the 130 grainers. Not sure which one will catch on first, but the Grendel brass/loaded ammo is already being imported by Lapua.
Anyone know if someone has already figured out how to make their own brass using 5.56X39 cases?
Thanks and keeep the replys rolling in!

Shootem all in one hole!, or NOT

Scott Medesha of Medesha Firearms has done extensive work and has been written up concerning this cartridge and AR's. He has a web page but if you wish to talk to him in person, it will have to be at night or early morning as that is the time which he works and answers his phone. His ph # is 480-986-5876. He shuts down about 10:30-11AM MST.
Hope this helps,

If by 5.6x39 you mean the 220 Russian brass as made by Lapua, all that you need to do is create a false shoulder by necking the brass up to, say 7mm, then reducing the neck until the brass will be a crush fit in the chamber. Then fire-form with your favorite technique. But, with the availibility of the good Gendl brass from Alex A I can't imagine why you would want to do that. And of course, if you have a custom chamber it will probably require neck turning at some stage.

IMHO if you are building a bolt gun I would not even consider using any brass other than Lapua. The higher initial cost will be well worth it.

Freestate,

I have about 10,000 rounds downrage out of 5 different Grendels, including 2 bolt action rifles.

Send me and IM or email if you like, I will be more than happy to chat about it.
