6.5 Grendel questions

Have seen only a few of these done, and not seen one in person. From a pic I saw, it looks to me that most bullets that might be viable for Long Range ie. 120-140g class are seated WELL into the case below the neck/shoulder junction. What adverse effect does this have on accuracy?, if any. I know the Guns Of The Week had a Speedy built article, but I don't remember if it had any info about best COL. Maybe this one is best left to an AR platform?, I don't know. It's interesting enough though to make me wonder about maybe dabbling a bit on something other than the 308. Other considerations are the 6.5x47L, and a 6.5XC. Chime in w/ your observations please.

You're wasting your time trying to push a 140 gr bullet out of a case the size of a 6.5 Grendel - that would be akin to trying to shoot 200 gr 30 cal bullets out of a 30 BR. Personally I feel bullets in the 130 gr range are flirting with being too big for the case as well. The 123 Lapua and 123 Sierra are about the biggest bullets for long range the case can effectively drive,in my opinion). If you are setting up a bolt gun, and throat it right, you might get 2700 fps out of it with those bullets. Can you shoot it at long range? Certainly! Are there better long range cartridges? Definitely! The 6.5 Grendel was set up as a cartridge for the AR-15, and it does very well in that setting.

Just some of my thoughts on it.

If this is any indication, I just rechambered my 6.5 barrel from a "Grendel" to a 6.5x47 Lapua. I agree with Robert, out of a bolt gun about a 120g bullet is tops.

Really, you are wasting your time with the Grendel in a bolt gun, at least for long range work....

Not to mention the brass is a PITA to get, and is as expensive as 6.5x47 as well.

Ok then, will look at doing something a bit different then. Maybe the 6.5x47L. Still unsure as to what I really want to get myself into for my first project build up.
